We are searching for a Senior Cloud Engineer to join our growing Public Cloud Transformation team reporting to the Cloud Transformation Delivery Director. Leading the capabilities and engineering team involves setting the objectives and roadmap for the team, working with high stakeholders to shape and improve the whole Cloud Development environment and the tools and services our domain engineering teams use to build applications in the cloud.

 

Your main responsibilities:

Senior engineerfor the Cloud Capabilities & Engineering team to deliver new and updated features and capabilities in a timely manner according to the cloud transformation roadmaps. Ensuring all engineering teams benefit from pioneering teams and minimising duplication of work by providing solutions and collating experience in a central place. Driving the cloud engineering community to ensure solutions are secure, resilient performant and compliant and helping each other through Inner Sourcing and other initiatives.

 

Leadership & Collaboration:

You will take a leading role in the talented team of over 10 senior Cloud Engineers enriching and maintaining a library Cloud Infrastructure Templates using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for all applications teams to deploy cloud infrastructure in a secure and compliant way.

Responsible for a repository of E2E examples of how to use the templates for real situations including multi layered IaC approach and manage contributions to the templates and examples from our user community through inner sourcing.

You will lead assessment of new cloud capabilities requested by all application teams and designing delivering new templates or shared services. Leading POCs and bringing experts from other teams together where needed.

Ensure the cloud platform, shared services and cloud advisory teams are kept up to date with critical information, changes and issues, collaborating with Microsoft or other Cloud Service Providers where necessary to keep pace with developments in the Public Cloud.

Prioritise, manage and deploy the team members effectively to respond to rapidly changing needs and support Business priorities and innovation.

Drive the evolution of our public cloud development environment used by all teams including support and adoption of new tools and features such as GitHub Copilot.

Cloud Engineering & Architecture:

Analyze and understand business unit and application team architectures and requirements to deliver cloud infrastructure design patterns, critical capabilities new products or services to support Business Unit cloud roadmaps.

Provide engineering expertise to work with application teams to modernize their applications according to the new solution architecture including design, implementation and testing of the changes to the application and updating our products and services where needed.

Help lead the Cloud Architecture Forum presenting technical topics including architecture and engineering, taking and documenting decisions.

Knowledge Sharing & Community Engagement:

Providing the required documentation and best practices for how cloud applications should be engineered in the right way and using the tools provided.

Ensuring the community remains engaged and grows accordingly with multiple teams (including yours) delivering useful content on a regular basis and representing what the cloud engineering community is interested in or needs to know.

Drive communication channels and deliver sessions with the team including communities of practice, blogs, SharePoint, knowledge sessions, hackathons and townhalls.

 

About the team

 

You will be joining a skilled team of Cloud Engineers who are experts in cloud engineering and Infrastructure as Code and part of a larger Public Cloud Transformation team delivering business value through effective cloud adoption. As part of Cloud Transformation Delivery, the mission of this team is to deliver high quality engineering for products and services designed to help other engineering teams use Public Cloud and benefit from synergies across all our Business Domains. We also aim to support and provide a modern Cloud development experience to attract and retain the best talent.

 

About you

 

We are happy to meet you if you possess:

  • University degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or comparable education/experience)
  • >8 years of relevant development, engineering and architectural experience.
  • Track record and proven experience of leading medium sized development or engineering teams, guiding and motivating team members working in AGILE.
  • Extensive practical engineering experience working with Azure and/or AWS Cloud and Cloud Native architectures including ability to quickly learn and understand new cloud services and updates to existing cloud services from Cloud Service Providers.
  • Hands on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Azure DevOps pipelines and understanding of software development lifecycles.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security including application and network level security best practices, able to apply and contribute to cloud security standards and guardrails enforced by Azure Policies.
  • The passion to deliver the core engineering required to drive our cloud transformation and identify and support the upskilling of DevOps teams to deliver and support high quality, modern, Cloud Native solutions.
  • A keen interest in a modern cloud development and new tools for higher productivity.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels while building strong trust relationships and leading community sessions with 200+ attendees.
  • Very strong analytical & conceptual skills.
  • Ability to assess, learn and understand the overall impact of new things quickly as they develop in the Public Cloud space.
  • At ease working in a transformational and complex environment at a fast-pace and getting things done.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
