About the Team
The Southeast Asia Legal team supports Swiss Re’s businesses and operations across Southeast Asia, partnering closely with internal stakeholders to manage legal and regulatory matters in a dynamic, cross‑border environment. The team provides practical, high‑quality, and commercially sound legal advice across a broad spectrum of areas, including corporate matters, regulatory issues, product development, and insurance and reinsurance contracts. Working as part of an international and collaborative team, the Southeast Asia Legal team members are trusted advisors who play a key role in enabling effective risk management while supporting business growth in line with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
About the Role
The Associate Legal Counsel will be expected to provide timely, commercially viable, practical and high-quality legal advice to enable effective oversight and management of legal risks in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and industry standards. The legal advice and support provided would include general corporate issues, regulatory and compliance issues, product development and insurance contracts.

Main responsibilities:
- Provide effective, commercially sound and practical legal advice on (re)insurance business and operations
- Advise on (re)insurance agreements
- Conduct legal and regulatory review of transactions (draft documents, negotiate the terms), instructing and managing outside counsel
- Manage legal and regulatory issues relating to products, business strategies and operating models
- Review and negotiate commercial agreements with business partners, agents or brokers
- Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant business areas
- Engage and collaborate with members of the Southeast Asia Legal team, business and functions across various jurisdictions within SEA in the provision of cross border legal support
- Support internal group projects and strategic initiatives
- Support governance activities such as participating in management committee meetings and handling internal and external approvals on appointments and other governance related matters
About You
- 5 to 9 years PQE, qualified lawyer from a reputable university
- Good team player and able to work in a collaborative and agile environment
- Able to work independently and collaborate with teams and stakeholders across various jurisdictions
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Good communication and cross-cultural skills
- Prior experience in insurance or reinsurance matters required
- Prior experience in and good understanding of regulatory and licensing topics in cross-border scenarios preferred
- Possess excellent drafting, negotiation and influencing skills
