Auditor
About the Team
Group Internal Audit provides independent and objective assurance that assists the Board of Directors and Group Executive Committee to protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of the organization. GIA's vision is to advance Swiss Re's resilience through assurance that is responsive to risk and providing the business with innovative insights to help strengthen the control environment and achieve its objectives.
About the role
As a Principal Auditor in Group Internal Audit, you will work closely with Audit Managers, Audit Directors and peers to deliver assigned audit activities related to Swiss Re's business in Asia Pacific and, where relevant, globally. You will contribute to independent assurance for the Board of Directors of Swiss Re Group and relevant Legal Entities in the Asia Pacific region, with exposure to senior stakeholders across APAC.
Together with the audit team, you will support the delivery of high-quality audits, contribute relevant business insights, and uphold internal standards and quality. You will also provide technical input to GIA strategic initiatives, projects, committee materials and regulatory reporting as required. You will work with Audit Managers and Directors to contribute to continuous and bottom-up risk assessment processes, which underpin our risk-based auditing approach. This approach relies on both quantitative and qualitative information to inform appropriate audit coverage through regional or global audits.
This role offers the opportunity to work on audit themes with organisational impact, helping strengthen Swiss Re's risk and control environment. You will be challenged to learn new areas of Swiss Re's global business, assess the effectiveness of relevant processes, risks and controls, and propose practical solutions for complex business problems, while gaining exposure to a wide range of risk topics across APAC.
Relevant work experience, sound judgement, the ability to analyse complex issues, collaborative working style, and concise written and verbal communication are key capabilities for this position. Your engagement and ability to negotiate effective solutions will make a difference.
This role is suitable for candidates looking to broaden from technical specialisation (e.g. actuarial) into a wider risk and audit perspective.
Main Responsibilities
As the Principal Auditor, you will:
- Develop a solid understanding of Swiss Re's enterprise risks, and work with the audit team across Asia to execute continuous and bottom-up risk assessment processes in a robust manner, helping identify key control issues and inform appropriate audit coverage.
- Own assigned audit tasks and contribute to the end-to-end audit process, including planning, scoping, fieldwork and reporting.
- Apply domain expertise (e.g. actuarial, finance, underwriting) to assess complex risk areas and provide meaningful insights during audits.
- Contribute to high-quality audit reports, offering clear, evidence-based insights to senior management and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of GIA methodology and apply it consistently across audits.
- Support Audit Managers and the APAC Audit Director in preparing materials for Committees, Executive board meetings and regulatory reporting as required.
- Work with Audit Managers to build constructive stakeholder relationships, particularly with the first and second lines of defence, to identify potential red flags and emerging risks, and ensure control issues are managed or mitigated.
- Participate in strategic GIA initiatives and take ownership for timely delivery of assigned objectives.
About You
Education and experience:
- University degree in Actuarial Science, Accounting, Business or Finance.
- Professional certification in either CPA, CA, CIA or CISA preferred.
- 5-10 years of related work experience in external and/or internal audit.
- External audit experience (e.g. Big 4) with exposure to (re)insurance clients, or internal audit experience within an (re)insurance organisation.
- An actuarial background or hands-on experience in actuarial processes within insurance or reinsurance (P&C or L&H) is strongly preferred. This includes experience in areas such as reserving, pricing, capital modelling, or IFRS 17-related actuarial processes.
- Strong awareness of internal audit methodologies and current/emerging issues for the (re)insurance industry, particularly within Asia.
- Good knowledge of (re)insurance (P&C and/or L&H), including governance, risks and controls. Experience in one or more technical domains such as actuarial, finance, underwriting, or risk management is preferred.
- Good understanding of regulatory requirements in Asia, particularly in key markets such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Australia and Japan.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
- Data analytics experience a plus, particularly when applied to risk assessment, scoping and testing.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
Personal skills:
- Sees the big picture and connects audit observations to broader business, risk and control implications.
- Highly accountable and self-driven; manages multiple priorities effectively under pressure.
- Delivers results with strong planning and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Collaborates effectively across functions and able to work independently when required.
- Communicates complex risk and control topics clearly and influences stakeholders constructively.
