Corporate Actuary

Position summary:

Swiss Re is seeking a qualified actuary to join its regional P&C Actuarial Reserving team, reporting to Head Actuarial Reserving P&C SID & China.

The position is responsible for the preparation statutory filings and attending to statutory matters for the legal entity Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd Malaysia Branch as well as fulfilling the role of Signing / Appointed Actuary for the branch (both Conventional and Retakaful). The position is also responsible for leading the evaluation and preparation of group reserving for portofolios of Asia markets (Southeast Asia, india, Korea and Greater China). 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Take the responsibilities of the Appointed Actuary for the SRAL Malaysia branch Conventional reporting, and Signing Actuary for SRAL Malaysia branch Retakaful reporting
  • Lead the evaluation and preparation of group reserving for portfolios of Asia markets (Southeast Asia, Indian, Korea and Greater China)
  • Knowledge for IFRS17
  • Provides support to Appointed Actuaries for other branches in the region regarding the portfolios this position in charge
  • Represent Swiss Re at actuarial and industry forums and maintain/forge relationships with senior actuaries in the region
  • Work with regulators and internal/external auditors on routine and special matters
  • Make recommendations to appropriate reserve committees and branch management
  • Provide support to the Head of Actuarial & Reserving APAC for actuarial matters and statutory reporting requirements as necessary
  • Support discussions with underwriting in relation to reserving feedback loops and other product analysis
  • Work on other projects as assigned including participating in internal underwriting audits
  • Support other areas of the company including Finance and Planning
  • Provide leadership to regional junior actuarial resources in their development of data analytics capabilities
  • Supervise junior actuaries in Kuala Lumpur office

 

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Qualified Actuary
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a Property & Casualty environment (insurance/reinsurance)
  • University degree in actuarial science or related field (mathematics or finance)
  • Meet the requirements for Appointed Actuary of Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd Malaysia Branch. Previous experience in a statutory role (AA or suchlike) would be viewed favourably
  • Good knowledge on Malaysia statutory and regulatory environments. Knowledge of other APAC countries statutory and regulatory environments would be viewed favourably
  • Solid actuarial valuation and reporting experience. Very good understanding of accounting, information systems and investments.
  • Practical experience with risk-based capital frameworks
  • Accomplished interpersonal and communication skills – demonstrates a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in a complex environment
  • Excellent business sense and appreciation of sound risk management techniques
  • Proactive in seeking out and providing information
  • Independent self-starter
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Actively looks to add value and take on additional responsibility
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks accordingly
