Engineering Underwriter
Infrastructure investment in Asia over the next decade presents significant business opportunities due to population growth, urbanization, and energy transition. We are looking for a highly motivated and result oriented talent who has solid engineering knowledge to join Asia engineering reinsurance team in support of our strategy in Asia Infrastructure segment.
About the role:
You will report to a team leader in the Kuala Lumpur office and will be to support our underwriting and daily operation for seeking profitably growth in engineering reinsurance businesses, both treaty and facultative, in Malaysia and other assigned markets.
Additionally, another 50% of role is to provide pre-underwriting analytical supports to other Asian Engineering Underwriting desks, primary for SEA and Australian markets.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyze and assess infrastructure insurance businesses regarding risk exposure, coverage review, risk modelling and costing.
- Support business origination and build strong relationship with business partners in assigned markets.
- Follow up on post underwriting activities including compiling underwriting documentation in accordance with company guidelines, handling post-bind policy amendments or treaty special acceptance, ensuring data quality in IT system, supporting claim handling and reserving review.
- Collaborate with cross functional team to execute market strategies.
- Provide technical advice and conduct training sessions for both Swiss Re clients and internal teams.
- Support Swiss Re Engineering Digital strategy, new product development initiatives, market research and other growth initiatives such as IDI, Renewable Energy solutions.
- Ensure efficient coordination with internal stakeholders such as other Specialty lines, Key Account managers, P&C Client Underwriters, P&C Treaty / Fac, Business Services, Claims and Finance
About You
- University degree in an Engineering Discipline with 5+ years working experience in infrastructure projects or loss adjusting field handling infrastructure losses.
- Underwriting experience in primary insurance or reinsurance segment is an advantage.
- Passion for learning particularly new technology development.
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, multi-cultural and matrix organization.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability; Commercial mindset with ability to perform under pressure.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
