Senior Accountant

General Job Outline:

 

A key member of the finance team with primary responsibility of supporting the Head of Finance on all finance operations and reporting function for the SR Property & Casualty and (Re)Takaful business (both Life & Health and Property & Casualty).

 

 

Major functions:

  • Provide the relevant assistance and support to business processes / initiatives / projects carried out within Swiss Re.
  • Assist the business to assess implication of regulatory developments in Malaysia mainly in the area of financial reporting, capitalisation, and tax.
  • Ensure adherence to controls over the processing of payments and receipts specific to SR Malaysia branch via Swiss Re Office in Bangalore.
  • Review the accounting of transactions for compliance with SR’s accounting policies and/or related local requirements in Malaysia.
  • Support the cost allocation process to business.
  • Produce financial analyses and support annual expense budgeting process.
  • Ensure timely and accurate quarterly financial closing.
  • Assist and support the annual financial audit, financial reporting and tax filing
  • Liaison with external auditors, tax consultants and other relevant stakeholders (both internal and external).
  • Participate in adhoc projects

 

 

Person Specification

 

Knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of the financial accounting and reporting requirements in Malaysia (under MFRS 4 and MFRS 17) and fund accounting will be preferred but not a pre-requisite.
  • Good knowledge of internal controls relevant to finance operations and reporting
  • Knowledge of re/insurance business would be a prerequisite
  • Knowledge of (Re)Takaful business would be preferred
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in insurance industry.

  • Good analytical skills. Attitude to learn.
  • Able to identify issues and initiate effective communication with internal stakeholders, including the provision of appropriate accounting advice (when need be)
  • Ability to adapt to changes and flexibility to accept new challenges
