About the Team:

The SRAL Carrier Management team comprises approximately 28 finance professionals across the region and operates within the broader Finance function globally within the GFO&T division. The team collaborates closely with local, regional, and global stakeholders to deliver timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting, meeting both regulatory and statutory requirements as well as internal analytical needs.

 

In addition, the team ensures robust governance and effective management of financial reporting risks, while supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives across the region. As a trusted finance business partner, SRAL Carrier Management team also provides business partnering support to enable informed decision-making and sustainable business development.

 

 

About the role

Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd (SRAL) was established in Singapore in 2018 as the regional home office legal entity for Asia. Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd, Malaysia Branch in Kuala Lumpur, is one of five branches under SRAL and is principally engaged in underwriting general reinsurance, general retakaful, and family retakaful business. The branch prepares its financial reporting on multiple valuation basis.

 

As part of the local finance team, this role is primarily responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of all regulatory and statutory reporting requirements, while maintaining strong governance and control standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead and oversee regulatory and statutory reporting for the branch, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks and accounting standards.
  • Manage multiple reporting deliverables and timelines, ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Provide functional coordination and oversight to the local finance team to ensure timely and high-quality reporting and analytical outputs.
  • Maintain proactive engagement with Malaysian regulators to address queries and provide well-supported, forward-looking analytics and responses.
  • Drive active solvency management under the applicable local solvency framework, including oversight of capital monitoring and reporting.
  • Advise business stakeholders on regulatory reporting and capital implications arising from bespoke transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Review retrocession-related calculations and associated regulatory/statutory reporting.
  • Provide timely and insightful input to Branch Management Committee meetings, including analysis of key business drivers and financial performance.
  • Design and enhance effective analytics to support both internal management reporting and external regulatory/statutory requirements.

 

 

About you

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in financial and regulatory reporting within the reinsurance or insurance industry; exposure to Takaful/Retakaful is an advantage.
  • Strong technical expertise in IFRS/MFRS and regulatory frameworks (including BNM requirements); solid working knowledge of IFRS 9 and IFRS 17 is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience engaging with external stakeholders, particularly regulators, with the ability to manage queries effectively and professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven analytical capability with strong attention to detail and ability to translate data into meaningful insights.
  • Strong control mindset, with a track record of enhancing governance standards and driving continuous process improvements.
  • Experience working in SAP (General Ledger environment) is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
