Global Financial Markets Pricing Actuary

Come join us! This is an opportunity to really make a difference to our L&H reinsurance business. You will be involved in reviewing L&H reinsurance transactions, focusing on a growing area of business for Swiss Re – Financial Market Transformation where we provide clients with solutions for hedging financial markets risks and asset-liability management via reinsurance. As part of the L&H Pricing & Contracts Deal Review team, you will also be involved in reviewing some of the other large and complex L&H deals written by Swiss Re, providing a level of independent challenge to our deal times and bringing integrity to our structuring and assumption-setting for large transactions.

 

You will also contribute to our L&H reinsurance business on topics including Terms of Trade, Best Practice Guidance, development of New Products and Solutions as well as Risk Appetite and Pricing Methodology.

 

About the Role

 

  • Providing direction, advice and technical expertise in the structuring, costing and pricing of large, complex and unusual transactions, with a focus on Financial Markets Transformation (FMT) business;
  • Provide advice and technical support on matters of risk appetite as well as in the setting and maintenance of key costing assumptions;
  • Provide technical, research and project management input to development of reinsurance solutions for clients, with a focus on FMT business;
  • Oversight and direction in the application of L&H global best practice guidelines; as well as in the regular review of costing and pricing standards and methodologies and their consistent application by the business;
  • Ensure that L&H pricing and product know-how and information is shared throughout BU L&H Re and Swiss Re Group;
  • Foster the development of skills, knowledge and a more commercial culture, especially across the pricing actuary community.

 

About the Team

 

The L&H Pricing & Contracts team is a global team with employees located in 12 cities around the world, responsible for defining L&H risk appetite, review of large and unusual transactions, pricing tools, methodology and governance, new business steering and contract wording. Our vision is to Engage the Swiss Re community to Steer and Enable our L&H business with the goal to make the world more resilient.

 

About You

 

  • Significant experience working across multiple global markets / regions;
  • Product knowledge across a range of financial markets instruments, financial guarantees or options, hedging and asset-liability management, and related reinsurance solutions;
  • Knowledge and expertise in pricing standards and profit measures applied within the insurance / reinsurance industry as well as by other financial institutions offering FMT solutions;
  • Understanding of the insurance and reinsurance industry and knowledge of the main products and services offered by Swiss Re and its competitors, especially in the FMT solutions space;
  • Ability to translate best practice into practical solutions that balance the need for Swiss Re profitability and risk management controls against the need for an attractive client proposition;
  • Ability to evaluate new FMT reinsurance solutions across a wide range of markets;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills;
  • Agile and flexible working style, with a proven ability to work independently and navigate ambiguity, balancing the need for adequate risk controls with commercial considerations.
  • Good working knowledge of the L&H reinsurance market and the Swiss Re Group would be an advantage.

 

Qualification

  • Qualified or part-qualified actuary, with 10 years' experience;
  • Preference for candidates with a university degree in mathematics, physics or engineering or a related discipline;
  • At least 5 years' experience in quantitative finance, financial markets instruments, structuring and pricing, hedging and asset-liability management (or related functions);
  • Track record of leading and/or influencing cross-functional teams;
  • Expertise in a variety of financial markets / L&H reinsurance products across multiple global markets / regions.
