About the team and your role

We are hiring a leader to head the EMEA and Global activity within the Reinsurance Life and Health Risk Management team. You will lead risk assessment and analysis of this business, ensuring material risks are identified, understood, monitored and mitigated appropriately. You will also lead the risk assessment and analysis of Global Life & Health risk themes, sometimes covering the Life & Health business of the Life Capital business unit as well. Your advice to the community will promote a risk aware culture. You will work within a global team, delivering consistently excellent service to colleagues within and outside of the team. With your strong interpersonal skills and your diverse experience, we look forward to you developing ideas to evaluate our risk taking activities and finding new ways to drive these ideas forward, striking a good balance between enabling commercial success and management of risk.

Your responsibilities

The key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing new products and transactions from a risk management angle, with a particular focus on large and structured transactions. Providing expert opinion on business proposals containing Life & Health risk, ensure that key risks are identified and reflected in the structure and costing of deals, and ensure that reasonable risk mitigations are implemented.
  • Leading the Risk Management costing assurance process; which involves setting the direction for both Insurance Risk Reviews and Terms of Trade Reviews across Reinsurance.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive risk management framework across all risk categories. This will include identifying risks the L&H business is exposed to, proposing appropriate limits, monitoring risk exposure developments, ensuring regular reporting of the risk landscape and undertaking projects to understand and investigate key risk issues and topics with a global scope.
  • Providing recommendations to Head Risk Management Reinsurance Life & Health, Chief Risk Officer Reinsurance and relevant decision bodies including Life & Health Steering Committees and other management committees.
  • Leading the Life & Health Risk Management Business Partnering process, which includes ensuring that operational risk management framework is embedded robustly, and providing risk advice to our business partners.
  • Leading the review of the EMEA and Globals Life & Health Business Plan, monitoring emerging risks (for example emerging viruses by leading the Pandemic Monitoring Group) and major new L&H business initiatives.
  • In order to conduct your role successfully you will foster positive relationships with Client Management, Business Management, Finance and Products counterparts within the community. You will lead a small team and collaborate with the wider Risk Management colleagues to deliver comprehensive services to the Life & Health business.
  • In your role you will be required to travel occasionally, and also attend global meetings that span multiple time zones

 

About You

  • Strong understanding of Life and Health reinsurance processes; ideally with experience working in multiple business functions.
  • Prior experience with large and structured transactions and advanced reinsurance concepts is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a motivated leader able to collaborate effectively with colleagues globally and comfortable in a multi-cultural environment with the ability to encourage and engage a team with senior members
  • Skilled at influencing and negotiation
  • Independent self-starter with commercial mind-set
  • Outstanding analytic and modeling abilities and a keen appreciation of sound risk management and actuarial techniques
  • Agile learner, open to new ways of thinking and new ideas; passionate about continuous learning and bringing new information into your work
  • Great teammate, willingness to challenge constructively and to share knowledge and experience within and across teams and other risk management functions
  • 10+ years' experience in relevant life reinsurance industry, including experience working in various capacities and with multiple product offerings.
  • Actuarial background strongly preferred; other quantitative backgrounds with suitable business experience will also be considered
