About the Role

 

The Legal Counsel role in the Legal P&C & L&H Reinsurance Advisory EMEA team is a legal partner role to the P&C & L&H business units in EMEA, with a strong focus on enabling and successful completion of reinsurance business initiatives as well as on ensuring proper governance and compliance with external and internal requirements. The geographical scope of the role is wide and can encompass any jurisdiction in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. You should therefore bring a validated ability to adapt to different legal systems and cultures.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

•    Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of legal documents
•    Advise on local regulatory and general legal matters (incl. researach and drafting of legal opinions) and support legal aspects of Compliance matters e.g. Data Protection and Market Conduct 
•    Manage legal aspects of projects and strategic initiatives within the EMEA region (e.g. changes in operational footprint)
•    Develop templates, policies and processes and participate in projects to improve processes and efficiency
•    Monitor and report on developments and trends in laws and regulations
•    Prepare presentations and legal reports, conduct training
•    Coordinate and optimize engagement and use of outside legal counsel

This role is reporting to the Head Legal P&C & L&H Reinsurance EMEA. This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a global team of lawyers in Legal Reinsurance. About You

 

We are seeking a strong communicator with a "can do" mindset, able to work independently and handle multiple requests and deadlines. An ideal candidate is a dedicated and trusted business partner who manages relationships and communicates legal and compliance concepts clearly and succinctly. We welcome if you can openly share assumptions, beliefs, values and thought process in reaching conclusions and are receptive to constructive challenge.
 
Essentials:

 

•    Are a fully qualified lawyer (bar exam) in (preferred) UK or any other EU jurisdiction, or equivalent
•    Have a minimum of three years post qualification experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house in the (re)insurance industry; experience in (re)insurance law, and regulations
•    Have experience and understanding of regulatory and licensing topics in cross-border scenarios
•    Possess excellent drafting, negotiation and influencing skills and can manage legal and compliance related matters
•    Speak and write in English fluently; French, Italian, Arabic and/or Spanish is a plus
