P&C Reserving Actuary (80-100%)

About The Role
 
We are looking for an ambitious reserving actuary to join our team in performing quarterly actuarial P&C reserve calculations. You will have the opportunity to:


• Work with a brand-new actuarial reserving tool (SPIRE), apply the various actuarial reserving methods to reserving portfolios and decide on the most appropriate reserves for the financial accounts
• Estimate nominal ultimate claims and their pay-out patterns, digging deeper into portfolios as required to identify segments needing specific focus and separate monitoring
• Support the reserving of individual non-traditional structured deals, with a focus on understanding deal-specific terms and conditions and key interactions with other deal stakeholders.
• Challenge costing accuracy, contribute to reporting and build a deep understanding of non-traditional structured reinsurance in particular
• Interact with other functions such as Underwriting, Claims, Technical Accounting and Finance as well as with senior management and build trustful long-term relationships
• Support the transition to IFRS accounting and shape the associated reporting
• Work on or lead actuarial-related projects and systems development
 
About The Team

 

The London Hub EMEA Actuarial & Reserving team consists of 7 actuaries with diverse backgrounds. We value a good team and collaborative spirit. We frequently interact with a large number of stakeholders from different functions. Therefore, we value strong communication skills just as highly as strong technical expertise. Our London Hub reserving team takes responsibility for a number of key EMEA portfolios including all EMEA Marine and Aviation business and all EMEA non-traditional structured deals (across all lines of business). In addition, we support a number of XFT Portfolio Steering teams and provide Legal Entity and Branch reporting activities.
 
About You

 

We are looking for an open-minded, trustworthy and enthusiastic team player who can constructively and respectfully engage in challenging conversations. To be successful, you need to have strong communication and partnering skills to be able to earn trust with our stakeholders. Are you at ease with leaving the comfort zone and performing under pressure? Are you an experienced nearly/newly qualified actuary with experience in Reserving/Financial Reporting and/or Pricing in Insurance or Reinsurance? Are you, familiar with underlying reinsurance contract structures/features and (re)insurance markets and products with:

 

  • University degree in science or related subjects

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Programming skills in R, Python or other related languages would be an advantage
