You'll assess and manage credit risk across a diverse portfolio ranging from domestic SMEs to global blue-chip corporates, spanning sectors including Construction, Fuel, Metals, Retail, Advertising, Food & Drink, Technology, Timber and Financial Services.

We empower our underwriters to own their decisions and make a tangible impact, supported by a highly experienced and collaborative team. This role offers significant exposure to complex credit risks, opportunities to develop sector expertise, and the autonomy to influence underwriting outcomes.

We're keen to hear from experienced trade credit professionals, ideally with credit insurance knowledge from underwriting, broking, or financial services backgrounds.

About the Role

  • Manage a portfolio of risks, delivering exceptional service and robust credit risk analysis.
  • Assess and respond to credit limit requests, providing clear and comprehensive analysis of key risks and underwriting rationale.
  • Analyse financial statements, management accounts, cash flow trends, liquidity positions and leverage metrics to assess the creditworthiness of corporate entities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business objectives.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial judgement by balancing risk appetite with profitable growth and customer retention objectives.
  • Conduct buyer meetings, review performance and provide insight into emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Present and communicate complex credit assessments clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with Commercial, New Business, Claims and Broker Distribution teams to deliver aligned business outcomes.
  • Apply reinsurance strategies and maintain underwriting discipline in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Utilise a range of financial, economic and market intelligence sources to support informed underwriting decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records within underwriting systems and contribute to peer reviews, knowledge sharing and best practice initiatives.
  • Represent the business in broker meetings, buyer discussions and industry events where appropriate.

About You

We're looking for an individual who combines strong analytical capability with commercial awareness and relationship-building skills.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven knowledge of the Credit Insurance market, preferably gained within underwriting, broking or a related financial services discipline.
  • Alternatively, strong and demonstrable experience assessing corporate credit or default risk gained through banking, credit analysis, lending, restructuring or financial risk roles.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including interpretation of company accounts, cash flow, liquidity, leverage and profitability metrics.
  • A solid understanding of UK and global economic trends and their impact on corporate credit risk.
  • Knowledge of portfolio management principles, including concentration risk, sector exposure and market cycle considerations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility across all levels of an organisation.
  • Confidence to challenge stakeholders constructively and defend underwriting decisions using clear, evidence-based rationale.
  • Strong reasoning, problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the confidence to form independent views.
  • Experience using financial and credit information providers would be advantageous.
  • A proactive, curious and accountable approach, with a willingness to take ownership of decisions and continually develop expertise.
