Valuation Actuary

This role sits within the UK Market Unit of the L&H Valuation EMEA team. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the UK Life portfolio across multiple valuation bases. The role involves setting valuation assumptions and working closely with cross‑functional teams (XFTs) to deliver robust and compliant valuation outcomes.

We are seeking a part‑ or nearly qualified actuary with strong analytical skills and ability to produce high‑quality technical work. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a motivated, proactive, and flexible approach, with the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within the L&H Valuation team and wider cross‑functional groups.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Own reserve calculations under multiple reporting regimes (IFRS and Statutory), providing assurance on accuracy and key movement drivers.

• Lead assumption reviews and loss ratio analyses, managing governance processes and presenting recommendations to Executive-level forums.

• Enhance valuation approaches for material treaties, including implementing refined techniques and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust outputs.

• Drive continuous improvement by applying technical expertise to resolve complex issues, challenging existing processes, and implementing sustainable solutions.

• Maintain quality documentation while providing coaching and technical support to junior team members.

About the Team

Join a diverse, highly skilled team working across multiple locations, united by shared objectives and close collaboration. Within Actuarial Reserving, we are responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of quarterly financial results, while providing clear, actionable insights into the key drivers affecting the UK Life portfolio. Our work supports senior management by proactively identifying and responding to areas of uncertainty. To achieve this, we partner closely with teams across the entire Life & Health value chain, fostering strong relationships that enable informed, effective decision‑making.

About You

We value independent thinking and problem-solving abilities, combined with strong communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders. Your collaborative approach, adaptability, and natural curiosity will enable you to support the team through changing priorities while identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Who we are looking for

  • Qualified or near‑qualified Actuary.
  • Strong experience within reinsurance/insurance, preferably with a strong focus on valuation and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of Life & Health insurance products and reinsurance structures, particularly those written in the UK or other European markets.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with proficiency in actuarial or statistical software
  • Independent and pragmatic thinker, comfortable working with ambiguity and proposing effective, achievable solutions while aligning expectations with stakeholders.

Compensation & Work Model

The base salary range for this position is between 62,000 GBP and 94,000 GBP (full time equivalent). The specific salary offered considers:

    • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role
