About the role

As an Actuarial Analyst, you will assist in analyzing the profitability of assigned lines of business, including Property Energy. You will transform the underlying claims and policy data to identify key performance drivers and meaningful trends. Using actuarial methods and data science techniques you will set parameters to reflect these trends and improve the accuracy of pricing models and be doing this through our cutting-edge data platform. Your work will have a direct impact in steering the profitability of your portfolio and the Business Unit's performance. You will also model and price large transactions.

About the team

The EMEA Pricing Actuarial team comprises of a mix of highly experienced members already entrenched in their dedicated product specialization and highly motivated newer members who thrive in a dynamic and fast learning environment. This team reports into the Chief Underwriting Officer Standard and is part of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions pricing function comprising two other regional pricing teams with the same regional mandate of driving costing accuracy for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

Main responsibilities

Data Analysis

  • Use Python/R to arrange, transform, segment and visualize underlying claims and policy data.
  • Spot potential trends or data issues to help drive improved profitability outcomes for the business.
  • Collaborate with other actuaries working with data.

Profitability Studies

  • Assist in assessing portfolio profitability based on data analysis.
  • Identify key trends and drivers of performance

Costing Accuracy and Data Analytics

  • Translate profitability findings into corrective actions on costing models and parameters.
  • Use actuarial and data science techniques to develop insights and trends that can be used for risk selection or differentiation; and costing improvements
  • Model and price deal transactions.

About you

Professional experience


  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in P&C commercial insurance. Familiarity with Property / Marine pricing and products. Knowledge of the Energy industry would be an advantage.
  • You have experience in commercial insurance pricing, portfolio profitability analysis and pricing model and tool development.

Technical skills

  • You have highly developed numerical and analytical skills. You have applied these skills using real business data to develop insights and practical solutions. You can translate your quantitative work into effective visualizations for high impact communication.
  • You have a good understanding of actuarial methods, models and related business processes.
  • You have statistical programming skills (e.g. R, Python) and enjoy working with data. Know-how of data science techniques would be an advantage.
  • You can review analytical results, derive recommendations and communicate implications to all partners- from peers to senior leaders.
  • Able to challenge and defend assumptions, methods and conclusions. Evaluate accuracy and uncertainty in models, according to the available data/information at hand.
  • Whilst you have the attention to detail, you can see the bigger picture, focusing efforts on areas or solutions that would have the highest impact.

Educational level

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or equivalent quantitative/ statistical fields
