Claims Specialist, Construction Defect/General Liability (Hybrid Work Model)

About the Role

 

This Claims Specialist will be responsible for handling Construction Defect and General Liability (GL) claims arising from policies issued under various Swiss Re Group-based programs.  The successful candidate will have significant claims handling experience and possess solid coverage, liability, damage investigation, evaluation and negotiation skills.

 

We investigate and settle claims applying technical knowledge and people skills to effect fair and prompt claim resolution.  Our Specialists must be comfortable negotiating directly with Insured's, other claims professionals, mediators, and/or attorneys as they formulate and execute negotiation and resolution strategies. 

 

The primary office locations for our department are in Los Angeles, CA, Kansas City, MO and Armonk, NY.  However, teleworking is a possible option for this position for candidates who are not located near any of our existing Swiss Re offices in the US..  

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Responsibility of handling of Construction Defect, General Liability and Bodily Injury claims of varying severity from receipt to final resolution making autonomous decisions within a financial authority level.
  • Perform coverage analyses and draft coverage position letters consistent with those analyses.
  • Complete detailed reviews of claims related issues, including coverage, liability and damages and, document the claim files appropriately.
  • Set and maintain appropriate and timely indemnity and expense reserves.
  • Oversight of defense counsel, independent adjusters and experts/consultants adhering to company guidelines and budgets.
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, including licensing requirements

About You

Additional key requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience
  • 8-10 years insurance claims handling experience
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel and Outlook and solid computer skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn new claims handling systems
  • Travel may be required but would likely be minimal
  • Active Adjuster Licenses in CA, TX, NY and FL are desirable, as is the willingness to procure any other state licensing that may be required.

 

 

 

For Los Angeles, CA and Armonk, NY the estimated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $144,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
