Senior International Property Underwriter- West Region

About the Role

Our Property Team is looking for a Senior International Underwriter with recognised experience and visibility in the Los Angeles and/or San Francisco Commercial Insurance Market and a successful track record in underwriting both Multinational and Domestic Large and Medium Sized Corporates. You should have a strong background in building international property insurance programmes. Experience with underwriting Property captive placements is a plus. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Analysing and assessing Property submissions in respect of exposures and coverages as well as identifying and negotiating the best position for Corporate Solutions
  • Underwriting for existing and new clients
  • Developing strategies to expand our position on current accounts and to cross-sell other lines of business in cooperation with the client managers
  • Preparing quotations, structuring programmes and offering proposals
  • Contributing to the development of our offering to suit the market needs and practices

 

About You

We are looking for an open-minded, trustworthy and enthusiastic team player who can constructively and respectfully engage in challenging conversations. To be successful, you need to have strong communication, negotiation and partnering skills. Are you at ease with leaving the comfort zone and performing under pressure? Do you consider yourself to be a "self-starter", able and willing to take initiative and implement measures in a detail and goal-oriented manner with:

 

  • Minimum 7-10 years relevant experience in property underwriting of medium to large corporates including in a lead capacity and servicing insurance programmes
  • Strong broker and client network
  • Proficiency in the use of underwriting tools and ability to interpret and judge the results
  • Ability to handle multiple deals in parallel without losing oversight
  • Good level of energy and pro-active behaviour

For California, the estimated base salary range for this position is $156,000 to $246,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
