About the Role:

 

Our Property Team is looking for a Senior Underwriter with recognised experience and visibility in the Los Angeles commercial insurance market and a successful track record in underwriting large and medium sized corporates. Experience with underwriting international program placements is a plus. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Production underwriting position responsible for handling large Global structured programs as well as 100% single-carrier accounts (ground-up property programs).
  • Accounts vary from Middle/Upper Middle Market, with purchased limits ups to USD 500m as well as Fortune 500 business.
  • Knowledge of complex program structures as well as Single Carrier business is desired.
  • Solid experience and understanding of NatCat and man-made risk management, loss-prevention and underwriting
  • Diverse industry experience a plus
  • Experience with international programs a plus
  • Proven negotiation skills and ability to cross sell Swiss Re’s product offering
  • Strong business and client focus with proven business impact
  • Ability and proven track record of handling complex transactions/accounts
  • Analyze and assess technical insurability regarding exposures and coverages on new offer and renewal submissions
  • Prepare quotations, structure programs, and offer proposals in accordance with guidelines
  • Use Swiss Re tools and systems for the development of terms and conditions
  • Enter and maintain risk information into the various information systems and administers the accounts
  • Establish and maintain specific industry sector know-how
  • Coach less experienced underwriters
  • Lead internal (technical/organizational) and/or external (market/client development) projects

 

Representation activities:

  • Represents Swiss Re in meetings with clients, brokers, and other Swiss Re Group entities
  • Interaction with other parties: (internal / external contacts, suppliers and providers of this position)
  • Regular contact with brokers and clients which require competent technical know-how, negotiation- and language skills, initiative and service orientation
  • Works effectively within client teams

 

 

 

About You:

  • High level of insurance knowledge
  • Must have In depth knowledge of insurance, commercial property underwriting, and the property insurance market, specifically, the West Region territory
  • Minimum 5-10 years underwriting experience in property underwriting of medium to large corporates including in a lead capacity and servicing insurance programmes
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines and ability to interpret and judge the results
  • Good knowledge of English language and demonstrated proficiency
  • Keeps abreast of market environment and trends
  • Strong broker and client network
  • Negotiating ability
  • Ability to handle multiple deals in parallel without losing oversight
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Good level of energy and pro-active behaviour

 

 

The role may require some travel. Swiss Re has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office three days per week. For California, the estimated base salary range for this position is $164,000 to $205,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
