Senior Quality Engineer (Hybrid; m/f/x/d)
Join a high-caliber community of engineering excellence professionals and help make the world more resilient. As a Senior Quality Engineer with deep expertise in test automation, you will architect, build, and scale advanced quality engineering solutions, owning automation strategy, framework design, and execution across functional and non-functional domains. You will operate as a hands-on technical leader, driving engineering-grade automation, influencing design and delivery decisions, and contributing directly to end-to-end solutions as a core member of our Engineering Center of Excellence. This role is offered in a hybrid setup, enabling a balanced and flexible mix of remote and on-site collaboration.
About the Role
As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will be a key driver of our quality transformation, shaping how quality is engineered across modern cloud-native, data, and digital platforms. You will operate as a hands-on technical leader, combining deep testing expertise with software engineering, automation, AI-enabled testing approaches, and modern quality practices.
This role goes beyond traditional QA. You will work forward-deployed with product and engineering teams, applying learnings from real delivery environments, influencing architecture and design decisions, and feeding insights back into enterprise-level quality strategy. Your impact will be felt across tooling, ways of working, and the overall reliability, scalability, and resilience of our solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Engineering & Delivery
- Embed quality engineering practices into product teams, contributing hands-on to both test automation and production code for critical services.
- Design, build, and evolve scalable, maintainable test tooling and frameworks aligned with modern software architectures (microservices, APIs, event-driven systems).
- Ensure quality is built-in from ideation through production by influencing requirements, design, and architecture decisions early in the lifecycle.
Thought Leadership & Strategy
- Act as a thought leader for modern quality engineering, championing shift-left/right testing, testability, observability, and continuous quality.
- Work forward deployed with teams to experiment, learn, and apply best practices, feeding insights into quality standards, patterns, and strategy at scale.
- Partner with architecture, platform, and product leaders to define and evolve quality roadmaps and success metrics.
Innovation, AI & Modern Testing
- Apply AI-assisted and data-driven testing approaches, including intelligent test generation, test optimization, and anomaly detection.
- Continuously evaluate and introduce innovative testing tools, frameworks, and practices to improve speed, coverage, and confidence.
- Promote modern testing approaches such as contract testing, property-based testing, chaos engineering, and production testing.
Automation & Tooling Excellence
- Lead the design and continuous improvement of end-to-end automation strategies across API, UI, integration, and non-functional testing.
- Develop and enforce internal automation standards, ensuring clean, reusable, and well-documented test code.
- Build and maintain supporting tools and services that enable teams to test efficiently and independently.
DevOps & Platform Enablement
- Integrate quality gates and automation seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines, enabling fast, safe, and frequent releases.
- Collaborate closely with DevOps and cloud teams to ensure test environments, pipelines, and infrastructure support reliable delivery.
- Enable continuous feedback loops through monitoring, observability, and production insights.
NonFunctional Quality
- Design and validate performance, reliability, resilience, and security testing strategies aligned with business and regulatory needs.
- Support teams in defining measurable non-functional requirements and ensuring they are validated throughout the lifecycle.
About the Team
At our company, our engineering teams are at the heart of our digital transformation. We build innovative solutions that help make the world more resilient through cutting-edge technology. Our collaborative environment encourages creative problem-solving and continuous learning, where every team member's contribution is valued and recognized. The Quality Engineering Center of Excellence serves as a catalyst for quality transformation across the organization, setting standards and providing expertise that enables our product teams to deliver exceptional solutions.
About You
You are a quality engineer at heart and a software engineer by practice. You believe quality is a shared responsibility and have the credibility and communication skills to influence engineers, architects, and leaders alike.
You are curious, pragmatic, and comfortable operating in ambiguity—able to experiment, learn quickly, and turn insights into actionable improvements. You enjoy being close to delivery while also shaping longer-term strategy.
You bring engineering excellence to your work – whether it's writing clean, maintainable test code or thinking critically about how systems behave.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in quality engineering or software engineering with a strong focus on automation-first testing
- Drive the implementation of our quality engineering vision, focusing on improving test reliability, execution speed, configurability, scalability and minimizing flakiness
- Enhance test and code coverage visibility, contribute to the availability of quality metrics, and contribute to improved transparency and traceability of test outcomes.
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable automated testing frameworks and tooling
- Strong hands-on experience with microservices and API-based architectures and DevOps-oriented test practices
- 3+ years of hands-on Java experience, including testing frameworks and Spring-based RESTful services
- Solid experience with API testing (REST) and UI automation (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress)
- Experience implementing and validating non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, security)
- Strong communication skills in spoken and written English
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience with authentication, authorization, and role-based access control mechanisms
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps is a plus)
- Experience testing complex integrations, external systems, and data or platform migrations
- Practical exposure to AI-enabled testing and modern quality engineering techniques
- Experience designing or operating CI/CD pipelines and release processes
- Active participation in QA or engineering communities to define and promote quality standards
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification or equivalent (or a strong engineering-based alternative)
- Experience with front-end test automation and modern web technologies
- Hands-on experience with tools such as SoapUI, Postman, Rest Assured, Protractor
- Knowledge of insurance or financial services technology landscapes
