Senior Underwriter E&C (Hybrid - m/f/x/d)

About the Role

Our Corporate Solutions team is seeking a Senior Underwriter to generate and underwrite new business in the Engineering & Construction sector, with a focus on Renewable Energy. You will engage with brokers and clients in the Iberia region while also assisting in other European countries.

Your responsibilities include:

• Extending and consolidating our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing, and negotiating insurance conditions for large and midsize projects, with a primary focus on Renewable Energy.
• Working closely with the Spanish team regarding clients and brokers.
• Assessing risks, coverage, terms, and conditions, driving related underwriting processes, and ensuring appropriate risk management when in a lead position.
• Acting as a point of reference on technical issues in the region within the global Engineering and Construction community and staying updated on new technologies and market trends.
• Contributing to the development of marketing strategies for the region and representing Corporate Solutions in meetings with brokers and clients, reporting progress regularly to the Head P&S Spain and the Head of Engineering & Construction for the EMEA region.
• Supporting the growth of associated lines of business by actively cross-selling the capabilities of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and contributing to the development of tailored solutions for clients' needs.

We are a team of 6 P&S UW based in Madrid. We work in a friendly and professional environment of trust and teamwork. We interact with our clients/brokers directly, lead the negotiation and develop strong relationships. In our team, you will be close to the decision makers.

About You

We are looking for a self-starter with the drive to take initiative and tackle targets in a goal-oriented manner. You feel fully at home in the cultural and business environment in Spain & Portugal countries and ideally other European markets and can fall back on 5 to 7 years of experience in engineering underwriting. Your sales and negotiation skills coupled with your cultural sensitivity and in-depth sector familiarity will form the basis for your success in establishing new contacts and originating new business.

Essential Skills

• Professional Qualifications & Experience:
• Engineering degree
• Minimum of five years engineering underwriting experience with a primary insurance in the Spanish market and with experience in Renewable energy & in handling International Business.
• Some experience as a professional engineer in the industry, ideally including managerial roles and with sound experience as a project engineer or on-site supervision including testing/commissioning responsibilities of large renewable projects.
• Strong team player, business acumen, entrepreneurial mindset.
• Strong broker and client network.
• Excellent negotiating/communication and social skills.
• Strong analytical skills and high proficiency with common IT applications.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage a high workload.
• Availability for travel.
• Languages: Native Spanish and C1-English are required.

Nice to Have

• MBA or postgraduate degree in economics, finance, or business administration is considered an advantage.
