Casualty Claims Specialist (80 - 100%)

About the Role

 

This is a mid-level Claims position, based in Manchester or London, responsible for the professional handling of claims with a focus on Public Liability/Employer's Liability claims but with a hybrid portfolio of Casualty, International Programs, and Professional Liability claims underwritten in the UK Casualty market. You will be equally comfortable acting as Lead or as a Coinsurer, and capable of technical coverage evaluation and exposure analysis and influencing a market to reach the desired outcome. Our objective is proactive investigation and evaluation, fair resolution, and the delivery of exceptional customer service in line with the Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment.

 

The position reports into the Head of Casualty Claims London.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Handle claims of varying severity within defined technical authority including, coverage review, fact investigation, loss evaluation, and designing and executing on an appropriate claim resolution strategy. Set and maintain appropriate and timely indemnity and expense reserves.

  • Proactive diary management to drive claims towards timely resolution.

  • Select, direct and manage external experts and vendors, including working with experts to set appropriate budgets and effectively manage costs.

  • Select and manage outside attorneys, where needed, including working with attorneys to set appropriate resolution strategy and budget and proactively manage costs.

  • Provide actionable claims input to internal stakeholders.

  • Assist Underwriting and others with contractual wording and risk assessments.

  • Keep Claim Management and Internal Stakeholders aware of loss potential and material claim developments, consistent with the Claims Handling Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Comply with internal governance, legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Regular Claims and Insurance Industry training/education, including obtaining applicable insurance certifications/designations.

  • Participate in regional and global projects as requested and required.

 

About the Team

 

The UK claims team is based in London & Manchester and comprises 18 claims professionals of different backgrounds, fields and languages, handling losses in the wholesale and retail markets across all the main lines of business. We believe that the way in which claims are handled, through the delivery of our Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment, can be a key differentiator and enables us to provide a unique and de-commoditised service to our customers.

About You

 

  • Smart, educated individual with insurance or legal-based work experience (ACII Preferred) or willingness to work towards gaining those qualifications.  

  • 3-6 years Claims or Insurance Industry experience working in the primary insurance market on retail and/or wholesale claims. Practical working knowledge and experience of using the UK Personal Injury Claims Portal as a Compensator is an advantage, as is knowledge of handling claims for International Programs.

  • A desire to learn and develop as a person and as an insurance professional.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Solid coverage, investigation, loss evaluation and claim valuation skills.

  • Solid negotiation skills with a desire to continue development of such skills.

  • Ability to engage and manage external experts, including proactive cost management.

  • Solid litigation and outside attorney management skills.

  • Solid understanding of underwriting and other insurance functions.

  • Solid computer skills including proficiency in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), MS Outlook, and the use of Internet for research and investigation.
