About the Role
Underwriting represents a core strength of Swiss Re, where you'll assess individual risks for life and living benefit applicants. You will support our teams across the United States and Canada. After comprehensive training, you'll leverage our world-leading underwriting manual and expert network to make informed recommendations on individual risks referred by insurance companies.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment
- Utilize medical and financial documents to establish appropriate risk recommendations
- Provide accurate and competitive facultative life risk selection while meeting or exceeding global time service standards
- Maintain underwriting standards in line with Swiss Re's principles
Knowledge and Support
- Develop broad knowledge of the end-to-end facultative underwriting process
- Support cross-functional teams with underwriting input for pricing, marketing, research and claims
- Maintain knowledge of current and future business policies, practices and trends
Client Engagement
- Prepare and provide onsite support for client-facing activities
- Support translation of underwriting-related tools
About the Team
Our team is part of the Americas L&H Products Hub, consisting of nearly 100 employees who analyze, price and select life and health risks for Swiss Re's reinsurance risk pools. We cover all Life and Health business written in the Americas, working with internal stakeholders and hundreds of clients across the region.
About You
You're an analytical thinker with natural curiosity and a passion for continuous learning. Your adaptability allows you to manage diverse demands from multiple stakeholders while maintaining clear, professional communication. You thrive in both independent and collaborative settings, readily sharing expertise with colleagues. With excellent time management skills, you efficiently achieve objectives while actively seeking opportunities to contribute to projects and team initiatives.
We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:
- 3-5 years of L&H insurance/reinsurance experience with demonstrated knowledge of underwriting processes (preferred)
- Alternatively, relevant medical knowledge (e.g., nurse, physiotherapist, health professional)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication abilities in professional settings
These are additional nice to haves:
- Experience in risk assessment or related financial services
- Knowledge of multiple languages (especially Spanish and English)
- Familiarity with insurance industry software and databases
- Ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
