L&H Underwriting Associate

Underwriting, essentially the individual assessment of risk for life and living benefit applicants, is a core strength of Swiss Re. As a Products Associate based in Mexico City you will support all the activities of our teams based in the United States and Canada. Following a period of intensive training, you will use our world leading underwriting manual, and an extensive network of support experts, to make recommendations on those individual risks which insurance companies refer to Swiss Re. As your skills grow, you will also have the opportunity to participate in other services which we provide to our clients, including reporting, marketing support, training material preparation, and, subject to language skills, translation.

 

 

 

Your responsibilities will include the ability to:

  • Utilize medical and financial documents (blood tests, cardiovascular reports, and accounting documents), as well as our underwriting manual Life Guide and our team of Medical Officers to establish appropriate risk recommendations
  • Provide accurate and competitive facultative life risk selection while meeting or exceeding our global time service standards
  • Maintain underwriting standards and processes in line with Swiss Re's underwriting principles
  • Develop a broad knowledge of the end-to-end facultative underwriting process, while providing support to special programs and business functions as needed
  • Support cross-functional teams with underwriting input for tasks such as pricing, marketing, research, and claims
  • Maintain knowledge of current and future business policies, practices, and trends. 
  • Preparation and/or onsite support for client facing activities, such as trainings, underwriting support of client quotes and pricing assessments, audits, and other ad hoc client requests as needed
  • Support for translation of our underwriting-related tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of operations area and function and be able to support when needed

 

About the Team:

Our team is part of the Americas L&H Products Hub, which consists of nearly 100 employees who focus on analyzing, pricing, and selecting life and health risks for Swiss Re's reinsurance risk pools.  Our team covers all Life and Health business written in the Americas, and therefore involves working with a wide range of internal interested parties, as well as hundreds of clients across the region.

 

About You:

  • L&H insurance/reinsurance experience with 3-5 years of demonstrated knowledge of underwriting processes would be a real advantage, but we are open to consider other relevant backgrounds with medical knowledge (e.g. nurse, physiotherapist, health professional in general), or a financial specialist with formal education and training
  • You are advanced in the English Language
  • French language skills are not required, but would be an asset
  • You bring strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • You consistently demonstrate curiosity, energy and interest in learning new skills
  • You are flexible (able to juggle the diverse demands of multiple partners)
  • You possess solid communication skills
  • You are a real teammate who is willing to share knowledge and information with others
  • Have excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently and cohesively with the rest of the underwriting team and other Swiss Re departments.
  • Be willing to participate in projects and other team initiatives
