About the role


Position summary:

In this entry-level position in the Products Team you will provide internal support for the full spectrum of US Medical Reinsurance actuarial services. Responsibilities include new and renewal business costing support, providing financial and actuarial services to client markets, underwriting, technical accounting, reserving. You will deal with a number of medical reimbursement products that Swiss Re is offering in the US, including fully insured major medical, employer stop loss, short-term medical, HMO Reinsurance, Medicare Supplement, or distinct market segments. You will also support medical reinsurance in Latin America, financial reporting and project work.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development of actuarial costing and experience reporting models.
  • Support development of quote costs, assumptions and model results or experience studies in compliance with corporate governance.
  • Support quoting and referral processes and timely submission of referral documents under defined approval guidelines.
  • Construct financial scenarios for client discussions.
  • Work on projects to improve the pricing/costing process and understanding of the business.
  • Working closely with Products Team and Client Managers in the US but also in Latin America to support strong relationships with clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all Swiss Re guidelines, underwriting and pricing parameters, best practices as well as Code of Conduct


About You

Education Background:

  • Minimum four-year degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or related field with proven mathematical skill and analytical ability and desire to pursue actuarial qualification (participation in Actuarial Development Program to attain ASA/FSA designation will be considered).
  • 1- 3 years of experience with insurance or reinsurance reporting is an advantage.
  • Strong Excel skills, Coding capability in Visual Basic or experience in using actuarial software (e.g. GGY Axis) would be appreciated.
  • Experience within the healthcare or insurance industry and various disciplines (e.g. actuarial, underwriting, sales, finance) would be advantageous.
  • Capable of managing own workload when faced with multiple priorities, but willing to seek guidance from line manager as and if required.
  • An independent thinker - willing to form and defend own view on technical topics, when given the right support.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English required. Additional language skills in Portuguese) are advantageous.
