About the Role

As an Agriculture Underwriter for Latin America, you will contribute to the profitable growth and management of Swiss Re's agriculture reinsurance portfolio across the region. You will combine technical underwriting expertise with strong market engagement, supporting both treaty and facultative business while helping to develop innovative risk transfer solutions for agricultural clients.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of underwriting, portfolio management, analytics, and product development. You will collaborate closely with clients, brokers, and internal experts to deliver data-driven insights, strengthen client relationships, and support Swiss Re's leadership position in agricultural reinsurance across Latin America.
As part of a geographically distributed team, this role requires a high degree of ownership, initiative, and self-direction. You will be empowered to manage your responsibilities independently, drive projects forward, and proactively identify opportunities to improve portfolio performance, client outcomes, and business growth.
About the Team
You will join the Agriculture Americas team, a collaborative and highly specialized group within Swiss Re's reinsurance business. The team is responsible for delivering underwriting excellence, portfolio performance, and innovative agricultural risk solutions across diverse markets in the region.
Working closely with Client Management, Agriculture Product Center and Center of Excellence for Parametric, and other cross-functional teams, you will contribute to sustainable portfolio growth, technical innovation, and the development of tailored solutions for both private and public sector clients.
As part of Swiss Re's global agriculture community, you will have access to a network of agriculture specialists across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, gaining exposure to advanced modelling capabilities, remote sensing applications, climate analytics, and emerging agricultural technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Agriculture treaty and facultative business, ensuring sustainable profitability and adherence to Swiss Re underwriting guidelines and best practices
- Evaluate, structure, and price reinsurance solutions through quantitative analysis, portfolio assessment, and sound underwriting judgment
- Support portfolio steering activities, including accumulation management, diversification analysis, structure optimization, and performance monitoring
- Generate portfolio insights and analytics to support underwriting decisions and strategic portfolio management
- Contribute to portfolio reviews, business planning, and performance assessments across the Latin American agriculture portfolio
Client & Market Development
- Build and strengthen relationships with clients, brokers, and key market stakeholders across Mexico and Latin America
- Support business origination efforts by identifying opportunities for profitable growth and differentiated solutions
- Collaborate with Client Managers and underwriting colleagues to deepen client engagement and strengthen Swiss Re's market position
- Support client discussions through technical insights, portfolio analyses, and market intelligence
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives and promote Swiss Re's agricultural expertise in the market
Innovation & Technical Development
- Support the development of new agricultural insurance and reinsurance solutions, including parametric and data-driven products
- Collaborate with Agriculture R&D and technical experts on modelling initiatives, product design, and solution development
- Apply analytical tools and technologies to improve risk assessment, portfolio monitoring, and product calibration
- Contribute to projects involving remote sensing, geospatial analytics, climate data, and emerging technologies relevant to agricultural risk management
- Help translate technical analyses into practical insights that create value for clients and support business decisions
About You
You are a well-rounded agricultural insurance or reinsurance professional who combines strong technical capabilities with commercial awareness and relationship-building skills.
You are naturally curious, highly self-motivated, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy. You enjoy solving complex problems, working with data, engaging with clients, and taking ownership of initiatives from concept through execution. You thrive in a collaborative international environment and can effectively prioritize, make decisions, and deliver results with limited day-to-day supervision.
Experience & Background
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Actuarial Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Insurance, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred)
- Relevant experience in agricultural insurance or reinsurance underwriting, product development, portfolio analytics, or related technical roles
- Good understanding of agricultural insurance and reinsurance markets within Latin America
- Experience working with agricultural production systems, crop insurance, livestock insurance, or related risk management solutions
- Experience interacting with clients, brokers, or other external stakeholders is an advantage
