(Senior) Underwriter, Casualty Treaty

About the Role:

 

Are you a dedicated, highly motivated and result oriented Underwriter? Join our Latin America Motor Solutions and Transactions unit in Miami.

The role is targeted to Motor business and is focused on assessing reinsurance treaties, developing new, customized, structured risks transfer programs, as well as originating, developing and pricing new insurance products, in combination with Swiss Re technology solutions.


The opportunity:

Actively execute our regional Casualty strategy, with focus on Motor Lob and related clients' initiatives.


Underwriting/costing/structuring:

  • Implement adequate costing by performing accurate, actuarially sound analyses, reflecting unbiased estimates of expected losses and associated steering values.
  • Make UW decisions in adherence to the guidelines and standard methodologies of Swiss Re for Casualty treaties
  • Actively suggest and drive structuring of alternative, customized efficient treaty structures and terms.
  • Stay ahead of competition: anticipate and analyze future industry/economic/legal trends and therefore play an active role in (re)insurance product development.


Origination:

  • Fully understand client motivation, needs and priorities as well as risk and capital drivers and align them with the company deliverables in order to develop customized solutions.
  • Cultivate Swiss Re's profile as strategic partner and build up relationship capital, together with Client Markets, to source transactional growth opportunities.
  • In collaboration with the cross-functional team, show the value of structured solutions to our partners, through compelling analytics and presentation materials.
  • Position Swiss Re Casualty as leader with vision on technical matters, innovative technology solutions (Big Data, Enhanced Analytics, Telematics) and structured deals


Execution:

  • Lead transactions and ensure an inclusive deal team approach with legal, accounting, finance, credit and other professionals within Swiss Re.
  • Steer the execution of initiatives aimed at delivering to our clients' customized, technology-related solutions.
  • Support our Regional Motor Expert in deploying technical, actuarial services to our strategic clients.


About the Team

This unit is part of a broader team of diverse, highly motivated underwriters, specialized both in single risk as well as in treaty assessment, located in our Latin American offices. Bring your knowhow, new ideas and creative perspectives and build on the multi-facet expertise of team members and of the company's centers of excellence.


About you

  • University degree in actuarial science or finance/economics or mathematics
  • Between 5 and 10 years of underwriting or actuarial pricing or R&D within the Insurance/Reinsurance industry (in case of shorter professional seniority in the industry, the profile will be evaluated in the context of a junior underwriter profile)
  • Data mining experience is a plus.
  • You have a deep understanding of reinsurance risk and corporate finance.
  • Strong statistical modelling skills. Outstanding quantitative and analytical capabilities; proficiency in actuarial-statistical software appreciated
  • You demonstrate business sense and critical thinking.
  • You are focused in delivering projects in time and quality.
  • Creative, open-minded and collaborative personality.
  • You show strong communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is necessary; Portuguese skills would be a plus.
     

The band level (E or D) will depend on candidates' experience.
