Objective of Role
In this role of Head of L&H Pricing India, you will be leading a team of 4 members based in Mumbai, 2 members based in Bangalore and taking responsibility for product development and pricing of new Life & Health business in India, to help the region achieve its ambitious growth plans. We aim to do this through better client experience; cutting-edge, better-informed pricing; and supporting development of innovative products for clients in India.
Major Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Accountable for ensuring business written in India aligns with company standards and achieves the market plan
- Drive and manage the team's short- and medium-term priorities
- Support development of actuarial staff
- Lead and contribute to regional projects
- New Business Quotes and Tenders
- Lead the pricing and modelling of new business, supported by your pricing colleagues; hold sign-off authority on quotes in India
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of experts from client markets, underwriting and claims to assess risks and ensure the long-term sustainability of business written
- Identify and understand clients' needs and concerns
- Experience Monitoring and Inforce Insights
- Partner with Portfolio Management and Valuation teams to closely monitor the performance of inforce portfolios, ensuring the team stays on top of all underwriting developments and can respond proactively to emerging trends
- Work with the Experience Studies team to gain insights into experience (e.g. claims, lapse), supporting data-driven pricing and portfolio decisions
- Develop and enforce pricing guidelines, challenge existing practices for improvement, and stay updated on market, regulatory, and competitive trends
- Strategy, Product Development and Brand Presence
- Lead technical, research and project management input for product development initiatives
- Further the Swiss Re brand across the region through speaking at seminars/conferences and writing of articles in industry publications
- Provide strategic inputs in the running of the Swiss Re business in India including implications of regulations, market and industry developments
Qualifications & Requirements
- Qualified actuary with 5-10 years PQE minimum (under a recognized actuarial body – FIAI/SOA/CAS/IOA/FOA/FIA) with a bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or equivalent
- Insurance or reinsurance working experience (including consulting); pricing experience of the India market is strongly desirable
- Proven commercial and technical skills in Life & Health product design and pricing
- Proven leadership in managing actuarial teams and driving transformation through ambiguity
- Strong understanding of IFRS17 reporting and its implications on pricing and profitability
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions and geographies
- Experience at using and developing pricing tools, is a plus
- Experience in medical reimbursement pricing is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
