About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a new role at Swiss Re, Mumbai.
We seek a colleague who is passionate about providing a holistic client management approach with a focus
on Casualty Underwriting.
The Underwriter will play a critical role in shaping Swiss Re's casualty and specialty lines portfolio in one of
the world's fastest-growing insurance markets. You will combine deep casualty underwriting expertise with
strategic client engagement to drive profitable growth and portfolio resilience.
This role will also provide opportunity to contribute to portfolio management and lead client management
for assigned clients.
Key responsibilities may include
Underwriting Responsibilities
• End-to-end underwriting analysis of core Casualty business including risk selection, pricing,
contracts review and structuring;
• Evaluation of treaties, decisive actions within your assigned treaties to meet standards and
guidelines
• Lead or support deep-dive pricing and underwriting projects, often involving cross-regional teams
and shared expertise.
Client Engagement & Market Insight
• Own and develop relationships with designated insurers and brokers, acting as the primary Swiss
Re underwriting representative and trusted advisor for casualty-related reinsurance solutions.
• Grow the core business by developing opportunities in the portfolio in collaboration with relevant
specialists and driving toward the principle of "right service right client"
• Anticipate and understanding competitor products as well as industry, economic and market
trends
• Maintain and share industry and product know-how, helping the team stay ahead of market trends
and emerging developments.
• Lead renewal negotiations and identify opportunities for portfolio expansion through data-driven
underwriting insights.
Strategic & Technical Contributions
• Supporting the P&C UW Head in portfolio steering, transformational underwriting initiatives and
underwriting excellence activities to achieve best-in-class treaty business
• Monitor the performance of current accounts and portfolios, identifying opportunities for
improvement and providing recommendations.
• Serve as the Casualty subject matter expert for the India team, providing technical leadership,
mentoring and thought leadership on emerging casualty trends and market developments.

About You
You have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, and pride yourself on your analytical and organizational skills. You have exceptional communication and client management skills that help you build and develop relationships with clients and brokers

Minimum of 10 years of experience in insurance/reinsurance Casualty underwriting, portfolio and/or client management

Experience in casualty underwriting, liability lines, motor liability, personal accident or specialty casualty portfolios.

Strong quantitative/analytical skills, underwriting judgement and experience with risk selection/evaluation as well as a flair for wording and costing issues

Understanding of the end-to-end (re)insurance value chain and relevant market knowledge (e.g. trends, competitors, capital markets context)

Ability to combine data-driven insights with sound underwriting judgment.

Proven client-facing and negotiation skills.

Entrepreneurial mindset (sense of urgency, cost consciousness and personal risk taking), committed to sustainable performance and continuous improvement

Organizational/project management skills, ability to manage peak period workload

Proactive learner who engages in emerging topics and contributes team-wide expertise

Ability to work independently as well as to collaborate in a team environment
