Claims Expert - Property & Casualty Reinsurance (m/f/x/d)

About the Role

As a Claims Expert in our Property & Casualty Reinsurance Claims team, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of important, large, and complex claims with a focus on German and Nordic clients. Based in Munich, Frankfurt a. M. or Hamburg and reporting to the Head Claims Northern, Central Eastern Europe (NCEE) & Globals NCEE, you'll play a crucial role in our claims strategy and execution.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio management and strategy - Own and steer your assigned claims portfolio, develop handling strategies for complex losses, and be accountable for portfolio development while avoiding negative prior-year development

  • Expert guidance and quality assurance - Provide expert advice across the Munich Claims P&C Unit, conduct claim reviews and audits, and identify legal risks, claims trends, and regulatory developments affecting our business

  • Cross-functional collaboration - Deliver and contribute to Smart Circles, maintain strong feedback loops between teams, and act as an inclusive coach promoting teamwork across business units and functions

  • Market representation and client engagement - Contribute to Swiss Re's industry leadership, explore client needs, deliver impactful projects, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including clients, brokers, and legal partners

  • Strategic innovation - Leverage claims expertise to strengthen the NCEE Market Unit strategy and develop scalable claims solutions with monetization potential

 

About the Team

This is a great opportunity for you to be part of our experienced Claims Team within our P&C Reinsurance NCEE Market Unit. We are currently looking for a key individual with exemplary thought leadership skills and sound experience in legal matters who will be instrumental in advising Claims Experts providing high-quality claims service for the NCEE Market Unit.

You will handle client and stakeholder relationships at all levels of seniority. Your legal background enables us to evidence Thought Leadership activities, adequate market, and cross functional team representation as well as excellent portfolio monitoring.

 

About You

We're seeking a seasoned claims professional who combines technical expertise with strong leadership presence and client relationship skills. You're someone who thrives in a collaborative environment while taking personal responsibility for results and driving innovative solutions.

 

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Degree in Law, preferably as a fully qualified lawyer, is an advantage

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with large liability/property claim adjudication  including litigation and dispute resolution methods

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in German and English

  • Strong leadership presence with ability to represent Swiss Re at client's senior and executive management level

  • Understanding of reserving rationale and resulting impacts, with ability to take a holistic view of performance

  • Experience in primary insurance industry or in legal/insurance departments of large industry corporations

  • Proven track record in successful strategy development and implementation

For Germany, the base salary range for this position is between EUR 87,000 and EUR 145,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers: ​

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,​

  • the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.​
