Senior Risk Engineer in E&C, Mechanical or Electrical (Hybrid- m/f/x - 80-100%)

About the Role

 

We are looking for a Senior Risk Engineer Engineering & Construction (E&C) with a mechanical or electrical engineering and preferably insurance background to join our E&C business segment in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and provide technical advice to E&C underwriters.

 

We are particularly interested in engineers who have construction, installation, and commissioning experience in the heavy manufacturing industries such as automotive, power equipment (e.g. manufacture of, not operation/commissioning of), steel, pulp and paper, cement or other manufacturing.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • You will advise our underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, loss prevention measures for our E&C book of business.

  • Reviewing, interpreting and summarizing submissions including third party technical risk information.

  • On-site risk inspections and progress reviews to verify our clients' risk mitigation approaches and to provide clients with risk improvement suggestions.

  • You will closely interact with underwriters and other internal and external clients.

 

This role has global responsibilities and the team come from a diverse range of backgrounds, so you should be comfortable working in a truly international environment.

 

About the Team

 

The RES E&C team is part of RES Energy and consists of currently three engineers and an additional contractor located in EMEA, one in North America (NA) and one in Asia Pacific (APAC). The goal is to build this team to around six to eight people in the next few years.

 

As a member of our global Risk Engineering Services (RES) team you will be one of our experts in this dedicated core industry. This will allow you to contribute to various projects and papers involving best practices, guidelines, technology and industry updates.

 

About You

 

You are a strong communicator who possesses phenomenal interpersonal skills. Highly analytical and focus on details.

 

Essentials:

  • At least 10 years' experience in the construction industry (design, project lead, site manager, commissioning, etc.)

  • Experience in the heavy manufacturing industry (construction ONLY, although operational experience in these industries would be an advantage).

  • Hands-on project experience on major infrastructure and industrial projects

  • Strong knowledge of project control tools (e.g. scheduling, cost, procurement)

  • Experience or strong curiosity about loss prevention topics (e.g. fire protection, technical risk management, machinery breakdown, construction safety);

  • Sound knowledge of international loss prevention/fire protection standards (e.g. NFPA or equivalent)

  • Language skills: German & English (must haves), any other could be advantageous

  • Willingness to travel worldwide

 

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience as insurance risk engineer at a broker or insurance company would be a plus

  • Project management specific training / courses

  • Sound knowledge of the Insurance E&C business is an advantage
