This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a high-impact role at Swiss Re. As a Senior Underwriter for P&C Reinsurance treaty business in Germany, you will be at the heart of our market strategy — selecting top-tier clients, building a high-performing portfolio, and driving results that consistently outperform market benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-end underwriting: Conduct thorough analyses of core business including risk selection, costing, contract review, and structuring — leveraging and improving relevant technology to support informed, high-quality decisions

Client relationship management: Build and maintain trusted, long-term partnerships with clients and brokers across all organisational levels, acting as a strategic advisor and reliable point of contact

Portfolio growth: Identify and develop new opportunities within the existing portfolio in close collaboration with specialists, consistently applying the principle of "right service, right client"

Market intelligence: Continuously anticipate and analyse competitor products, industry trends, economic developments, and evolving market dynamics to stay ahead of the curve

Account accountability: Take full ownership of your assigned accounts, ensuring compliance with all relevant underwriting guidelines and internal frameworks

Collaborative innovation: Work cross-functionally with internal specialists, actuaries, and client managers to design customised reinsurance solutions that meet complex client needs

About You

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance or reinsurance underwriting, portfolio management, and/or client management

Native-level German and professional proficiency in English — essential for effective client and internal communication in the German market

Strong technical underwriting skills including contractual knowledge, risk assessment and appetite, product knowledge, portfolio steering, and market intelligence

Analytical capability — the ability to deep-dive into data and details while maintaining a clear view of the broader strategic picture

High affinity for technology and data analytics — comfortable using and improving digital tools to support underwriting decisions

Proven client management skills — demonstrated ability to build, develop, and sustain strong relationships with clients and brokers at all levels, acting as a trusted advisor and delivering tailored reinsurance solutions

Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time to meet clients and attend industry events
Compensation
For Germany, the base salary range for this position is between 101,000 EUR and 169,000 EUR for a full-time role.
