About the Role:

 

Direct report to North America FinPro and Casualty leader. 

 

Swiss Re Executive Committee has affirmed significant investment in the Cyber line of business. The investment secures Underwriting, Claims, Risk Engineering, Contracts and operational support to establish solid foundations for long term profitable expansion.

 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Shape the foundations and execution of the growth strategy for the NA Cyber and Technology lines
  • Lead and develop the underwriting team through growth stages dependent on market cycle and prevailing profitability trends.
  • Work closely with Global Cyber leader, FinPro professionals, Customer & Distribution Team and the broader Corso community to ensure prioritization and coordination of underwriting, sales, and cross-sell efforts throughout the network.
  • Develop and maintain trusted and interdependent relationships with key internal stakeholders - actuarial, claims, legal, operations, IT -  and external stakeholders including key Cyber brokers and reinsurers
  • Steer and manage NA Cyber portfolio to achieve priorities surrounding 'Strategic growth', underpinned with KPI's reflecting 'profitability', 'portfolio mix' and 'risk quality'.

 

Execution risk from effectively a 'start up' position will necessitate regular review of:

 

  • People and performance effectiveness against priorities
  • Defining and refining risk appetite through lens of profitability
  • Effectiveness of risk assessment/costing tools taking fast, effective actions where necessary
  • UW platforms and processes to ensure governance while balancing the need to consider simplification/technology usage
  • Develop a rhythm and process to rapidly detect and understand positive and negative risk trends
  • Policy/contract wording to evaluate market demand and risk appetite
  • Partner with Alternative Risk Transfer Team to define and develop opportunities

 

About you:

  • 10+ years of underwriting experience in NA Cyber and Technology E&O market
  • Proven leader
  • Ability to think operationally, tactically, and strategically
  • Solid underwriting fundamentals in Cyber & Technology E&O
  • Balanced awareness of risks and opportunities with strong business acumen
  • Excellent negotiation skills to achieve bottom line profitability for Swiss Re CorSo
  • Ability to understand loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking. Ability to quantify risk based on experience history and forecasting methods.
  • Competent use of data and analytics to improve business processes.
  • Fast learning skills to adequately use existing systems and software programs needed to conduct daily business
  • Team-oriented working style and ability to work in a dynamic environment.

 

The position is flexible to New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or potentially open to other Swiss Re office locations for a qualified candidate. Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office two to three days per week on average. 

 

For New York and California, the estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $252,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
