About the Role
As the Head Group Actuarial Costing, you will lead a team of actuaries and analysts to ensure costing accuracy and pricing discipline across Swiss Re Group. Your role will involve developing consistent methodologies, monitoring performance, and governing costing frameworks. You will support new product approvals by validating pricing frameworks and assist the Group with large deals, referrals, and complex risk costing. Additionally, you will be a permanent guest of the Group Underwriting Committee, contributing to strategic discussions and decisions.
Key Responsibilities:

Define and Oversee Costing Methodologies: Establish and maintain costing methodologies and metrics across the Group to ensure informed deal decision making, consistency and accuracy. Govern technical margin frameworks to reflect risk-adjusted returns.

Maintain a Group-wide costing parameter inventory and ensure its consistent maintenance at defined frequencies. Manage a central pricing database for all deals written at Swiss Re

Track Profitability and Volatility: Monitor Actual vs. Expected (AvE) performance and track costing/reserving gaps. Establish early warning mechanisms for signs of underperformance to ensure costing adequacy.

Coordinate Unified Underwriting Approach: Lead a unified underwriting approach on large loss complexes (e.g., opioid, PFAS) for consistent underwriting guidance. Support the large deal referral process and validate pricing frameworks for new product approvals.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership, underwriting teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment of costing with business objectives. Foster strong relationships and effective communication across departments.

Lead a Team Effectively: Provide leadership and direction to a team of professionals. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Mentor and support team members to achieve their full potential.
About the Team
The Group Actuarial Costing team is a newly developed unit within Swiss Re Group Underwriting playing a critical role in ensuring a consistent approach to our costing disciplines and metrics used to measure success across all business lines. You will lead a small team of actuaries and analysts who are passionate about accuracy and excellence. Our team thrives on collaboration, continuous improvement, and fostering strong relationships across departments. About You
We are looking for a candidate who embodies our company values and possesses strong leadership skills. You should have:

A minimum of 15 years' experience in owning Actuarial Costing methods, tools, standards, and processes in the re/insurance industry.

Underwriting experience and/or exposure to both P&C and L&H areas is a plus.

Strong global vision and capabilities in shaping costing methodologies and metrics to ensure consistency and accuracy.

Proven stakeholder management and influencing skills. A strong communicator (written and verbal), able to drive change and a new mindset/culture within a broader community.

Ability to learn, adapt and challenge status quo in an effective and constructive way, including unpopular decisions when necessary

The estimated base salary range for this position is $293,000 to $488,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
