Investment Analyst, Corporate Development (AVP)

About the Role

 

As part of a highly visible team of insurance, investment and M&A professionals whose two primary functions are to lead M&A activities for Swiss Re at the Group and Business Units and oversee a portfolio of direct private equity minority interest investments in insurance-related businesses., you will benefit from a broader strategic view of Swiss Re and the insurance industry.  You will have significant responsibility and visibility while developing skills related to corporate mergers and acquisitions and managing private equity-style investment portfolio.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Evaluate opportunities – i.e., fit with strategic / investment appetite, benefits and risks, financial analysis, valuation and returns
  • Execute transactions – i.e., due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and documentation
  • Work with Business Unit leaders and key internal and external partners in evaluating and executing transactions
  • Support value creation efforts for portfolio companies including engaging with company managers
  • Prepare materials vital to enable efficient executive decision-making (e.g., Corporate Development Investment Committee and Group Executive)
  • Stay aware of the latest trends and developments in the insurance and reinsurance sectors through engagement with external and internal parties

 

In this role you will travel regionally to oversee existing investments and / or diligence new opportunities and build a professional network within Swiss Re and the investment, insurance and advisor communities!

 

 

About the Team

 

Corporate Development is a global team located in New York, Zurich, London and Hong Kong and is part of Swiss Re's Group Asset Management division. The team's two primary functions are to lead Group and Business Unit level strategic M&A activities for and to manage and the firm's portfolio of direct private equity minority interest investments in insurance and insurance-related businesses.

 

 

About You

 

Showing good presence, judgement and "self-starter" personality, you possess a strong desire to further develop investing acumen and executing corporate transactions and, with time, take on responsibility for leading transactions.  A great collaborator, you thrive in a team environment, partnering openly with colleagues on transactions and contributing to a cohesive, high-performing Corporate Development team.

 

Additional requirements include:

 

  • 3-5 years of relevant full-time work experience in a transaction focused, analytical environment (e.g., Corporate Development, Investment Banking or Private Equity)
    • Experience in either insurance/reinsurance, financial services M&A or direct investing are a plus
  • Demonstrated analytical ability, financial acumen and modelling skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively interact and collaborate within a corporate environment
  • Undergraduate degree required, preferrably in Finance, Economics, Insurance, Actuarial Science or a related field
  • Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
  • English fluency is a must, working proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese are a plus

 

Our company uses a hybrid work model requiring at least three days in the office each week, with the option to work onsite full-time if preferred.  This position is not eligible for full-time telework or visa sponsorship.

 

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $136,000 to $204,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
