Junior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager
Are you passionate about fixed income markets and excited to grow your career in portfolio management? We are looking for a motivated, analytically minded professional with a strong interest in rates and agency mortgage-backed securities (MBS) to join our team of dedicated investment professionals within Swiss Re’s Asset Management (AM) unit. This is an exciting opportunity to build your expertise in a dynamic, intellectually challenging market-driven environment while gaining exposure to the intersection of macroeconomics, market structure, quantitative investing, and emerging technologies.
About the Role
As a Junior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager on the Rates and ALM (Asset Liability Management) team, you will join a team of Portfolio Managers focused on Swiss Re's government and government-related fixed income portfolios - including Treasuries, interest rate derivatives, and agency MBS. You will be engaging in quantitative investment analysis, portfolio construction, and trade execution, leveraging data-driven insights to support investment decisions.
This role offers a blend of exposure to both interest rate markets and agency MBS, and will include building AI-enabled analytical tools, analyzing market developments, and actively supporting and improving daily portfolio management processes.
Key Responsibilities include the following:
- Alongside Senior Portfolio Managers, execute trades across government bonds, agency mortgage-backed securities, interest rate swaps, futures, and other fixed income derivatives, ensuring smooth trade operations.
- Conduct quantitative investment analysis and portfolio construction across government and agency MBS markets, including scenario testing, curve and spread modeling, and prepayment analysis.
- Analyze yield curve dynamics, agency MBS and broader market trends, while monitoring macroeconomic developments and contributing to relative value analysis across rates markets.
- Develop and enhance AI- and Python-enabled automation tools, and Bloomberg data to enhance investment research, portfolio monitoring, market analysis, and trade execution insights.
- Engage with investment bank economists and strategists, bringing relevant market insights back to the team and contributing to investment discussions.
- Monitor portfolio risk and performance while supporting trade booking, P&L reconciliation, reporting, and the preparation of investment materials.
About You
You are quantitatively minded, self-motivated, and eager to build your career in fixed income trading and portfolio management. You bring a solid foundation in financial markets and macroeconomic trends, along with a curiosity to deepen your expertise across rates and mortgage-backed securities. Comfortable working with data and tackling analytical challenges, you are also interested in new technologies and excited to explore how AI can enhance investment and portfolio management workflows.
You thrive in a fast-paced, market-driven environment, bringing a proactive and organized approach while balancing multiple priorities. As a collaborative team member, you build effective relationships across functions and levels of seniority. Strong written and verbal communication skills allow you to translate data and analysis into clear, meaningful insights for a range of audiences.
Additional key skills and competencies you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related analytical field; progress toward a professional designation (e.g., CFA) is a plus.
- Up to 3 years of experience in fixed income trading, quantitative investment research, or asset-liability management, preferably within a bank, asset manager, or insurance company.
- Strong data analysis skills, with demonstrated ability to learn and effectively use modern technology and AI tools; experience with Python, Bloomberg, Aladdin, or other investment and risk systems is a plus.
- Foundational knowledge of financial markets, including rates, mortgage-backed securities (MBS), yield curves, and derivatives.
- Exposure to quantitative modeling, statistical analysis, or portfolio construction through coursework, internships, or experience in a trading or investment environment.
- Eagerness and curiosity to explore and apply AI, data, and automation tools to enhance investment processes, improve efficiency, and generate meaningful insights.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and proactively identify areas where you can contribute
