Lead Actuary Property Americas

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as the Lead Actuary Property Americas and will be reporting into Head of Property & Specialty (P&S) Actuarial Portfolio Management.

 

About the Role

  1. Strategy development:   Collaborate with underwriting leadership and products teams of Property Americas portfolios to support strategy development and support execution of UW strategies. Partner with the portfolio leader to monitor and evaluate existing and new opportunities efficiently to support both growth and remediation activity. Collaborate with Head APM P&S to ensure that execution is in line with other Property portfolios.
  2. Portfolio management discipline:   Drive portfolio management discipline across Property Americas, ensuring that portfolios have a long-term strategy, detailed business plan, and a monitoring framework and capability that responds to the execution of actions, pricing data, market trends and competitor behaviour. Collaborate with Head APM P&S to ensure that application of these principles is in line with other Property portfolios.
  3. Pricing model development:  As part of Global Rating framework for Property, ensure that pricing parameters corresponding to Property Americas are calibrated inline with Global approach and are accurately to reflect the latest experience, portfolio mix, and trends and work with technology to implement these tools to support underwriting decision making.
  4. Analytical driven decision making:  Develop a view on portfolio profitability reflecting the latest market dynamics, rate and loss experience. You will develop initiatives to understand the drivers of profitability using actuarial segmentation analyses and work with the business stakeholders to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate risks.
  5. Team management and APM Property leadership:  Manage a diverse team of actuaries based in North America, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback. As a member of the APM Property leadership team you shall actively contribute to the leadership, stakeholder management and future strategy of Property portfolios.

 

About the Team

You will be joining a diverse and global team of Property actuaries which is responsible for pricing models, parameters, tools corresponding to General Property, Energy and Alternative Risk Transfer products. The successful candidate will lead actuaries based in North America and will also be responsible for portfolio management strategies for Property Americas underwriting portfolios.

You will also be part of leadership team of APM Property & Specialty.

 

About You

You are likely to be an Actuary with deep Commercial Insurance experience ideally in Property or conceptually similar lines eg: Engineering bringing with you a combination of industry knowledge, business insight and technical skills.

 

You are someone who can lead initiatives to take our vision to reality, being an advocate for driving change. You are comfortable with data and analytical management techniques and have a strong actuarial technical capability; and can both create solutions yourself, and lead, coach others to do so.

Business fluency in English is needed. The role is based in US and will require some travel, but not expected to exceed 10%.

 

The estimated base salary range for this position is $173,000 to $300,000.  The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
