Life & Health Transaction Originator - VP or AVP

About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic, proactive Business Development Manager to help drive growth in our Life & Health (L&H) reinsurance business across the US and Canada, with a strong focus on Full Risk Transactions and Structured and Financial Solutions.

Swiss Re partners with insurers to craft bespoke reinsurance transactions that address capital, regulatory, and financial market challenges. Leveraging our global expertise, we help clients optimize balance sheets, enhance liquidity, and support strategic initiatives like M&A, product innovation, and longevity risk management.

This role will help us see over the horizon and invent the next new thing on reinsurance transaction. This role offers the opportunity to be a key contributor in the development of transaction strategies, high-impact client initiatives, and work closely with originators, structurers, and clients to identify and deliver transformative reinsurance solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new transaction prospects with US & Canadian clients in the L&H reinsurance space.
  • Analyze client financials and capital structures to uncover reinsurance or structured solutions potential.
  • Monitor regulatory, macroeconomic, and industry trends — and translate them into transaction opportunities.
  • Build and deliver compelling propositions and pitch materials.
  • Partner with Structured Solutions and Market Units to shape innovative deals.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (e.g. accounting, risk management) to develop structures that meet customer needs and fit Swiss Re's risk appetite
  • Where relevant, assess the client benefits such as capital impact and financial value of proposed transactions.

The Team

The L&H Business Development team plays a pivotal role at the front end of Swiss Re’s transaction value chain. We focus on early-stage lead identification and the development of ideas into tangible business opportunities. Collaborating closely with Client Markets, Transaction Originators, and Structured Solutions teams, we work across markets, clients, and product lines to uncover and shape high-impact, transformative reinsurance solutions.

Our mission is threefold:

  1. Transform Macro & Industry Trends into Transaction Opportunity – Track changes in insurance, capital markets, and regulation, and convert these shifts into actionable client solutions and opportunity
  1. Scope Transaction Targets and Support Client Engagement – Identify priority clients in the US and Canadian markets and actively foster and support outreach and engagement efforts tailored to their capital or risk needs.
  1. Support Business Unit Strategic Initiatives – Provide analytical and execution support for high-priority initiatives focused on expanding the transaction footprint, as endorsed by Swiss Re’s L&H leadership team.

You will report directly to the Global Head of L&H Business Development.
