About the Role

As a Senior Treaty Underwriter, you will support our team to develop, underwrite and market profitable new and existing opportunities across Casualty lines of business. You will be a catalyst in executing our strategy for a targeted client group of Global Insurance companies; growing our market position, and driving operational efficiency within the portfolio.

  • Originate and underwrite Casualty treaty business in compliance with the appropriate guidelines and within allocated authority while conforming to best practices and focusing on efficiency in approach.
  • Maintain and develop Swiss Re's relationships with assigned clients (including C-suite) in order to achieve the team strategic and financial objectives.
  • Build and maintain broker and client professional network to support profitable business origination through the US broker market.
  • Take a holistic view in relation to allocated clients by ensuring an efficient service proposition that considers all business opportunities, and, utilize sound strategic decision-making as respects all aspects of assigned client and broker relationships.
  • Raise, maintain and enhance the profile of Swiss Re within the marketplace.
  • Interact closely and collaborate with the broader Cross-Functional Team.
  • Build and develop a network of reinsurance brokers to identify and originate new business opportunities.
  • Track industry and segment developments and raise these for strategic discussions with clients. 
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the operations, structure, and issues regarding allocated clients, including the market environment.
  • Position includes travel activities.

About The Team

The Senior Treaty Underwriter will be part of the Globals team. 




About You

  • Minimum 5 years of reinsurance experience in Casualty Underwriting, Client Markets or other meaningful function.
  • Extensive Casualty underwriting expertise
  • Thorough understanding of casualty treaty pricing methodology

Sales and marketing experience

  • Excellent understanding of Casualty insurance/reinsurance markets (knowledge of US broker market preferred)
  • Understanding of contract wording, certain legal knowledge or interest to develop this knowledge



  • Strong focus on identifying client needs and flexibility in developing solutions
  • Enthusiasm for new business opportunities and the desire to think creatively
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Acts strategically and exhibits an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage peak period workflows
