About the CUO Standard Team

The CUO Standard team has been established to bring simplicity and efficiency to our clients, intermediaries and colleagues. We believe that by creating standard products, we can meet many clients' and intermediaries' needs better, while also enabling true portfolio underwriting.

About the role

As the Standard Casualty Product Analyst you will be responsible for creating simple, standard products, including underwriting standards, rules and guidelines, that meet the needs of Standard Casualty customers. You will ensure that the product wording is sufficiently broad to be relevant; appropriate to manage the risks taken; and raising the bar in clarity. You will work very closely with underwriters, actuaries and regulatory operations to develop and monitor these products. You must balance the need to enable profitable growth, with the requirement to maintain an acceptable loss ratio within Standard Casualty.

Collaboration will be crucial and industry deep expertise in the Casualty middle market underwriting is a must. You will drive an approach to portfolio underwriting within NA Standard Casualty team that includes taking imaginative approaches to reduce noise and bias in underwriting judgement.

Key points include:

  • Develop new, innovative, simple and easy-to-understand insurance products in the Casualty space
  • Create rules, guidelines for the middle market Casualty
  • Collaborate with actuarial team and regulatory operations team to develop and file rates
  • Develop and own the standard Casualty underwriting toolkit, partnering with the actuarial and data science teams to develop the models and tool calibration
  • Drive development and execution of technical training plans for the Standard Casualty underwriting community
  • Support portfolio steering in North America Standard Casualty
  • Establish and maintain underwriting guidelines, and manage underwriting authorities
  • Handle referrals

Your vision of a Standard Casualty insurance product in North America is crucial to our ambition to develop an open-market, mid-corporate proposition that excites clients and intermediaries.

You will be able to engage with all lines of business, even those outside your personal area of experience, in a constructive and substantive way.

You will be ultimately responsible for the Standard Casualty loss ratio in North America- and your ideas and judgment will shape our ability to deliver for our clients and other stakeholders.

 

About You

You are someone who is a self-starter, driven individual who can build an exciting vision and translate that vision into strategy and tangible action. You are detail-oriented to make sure the vision is executed well.

You take on problems strategically in a structured way, integrating your own original and creative ideas and those of others. You are entrepreneurial and not afraid to think outside of the box in order to develop innovative but realistic products.

You communicate clearly and simply – even when dealing with complicated problems and ideas – and you do so both orally and in writing. When interacting with colleagues of every level of seniority and experience, you are empathetic and sensitive, and you adjust your communication style to meet the needs of others.

You understand, and can assess the quality of, complex quantitative analysis. This includes forecasting, descriptive and predictive analytics.

Deep primary middle market Casualty insurance market experience is crucial, as you will bring your personal knowledge to bear. You have probably been a middle market Casualty underwriter in North America. You will have an open-minded, intellectually curious approach to everything you do; and you are likely someone who is continually learning from a variety of sources.

Business fluency in English is needed. The role will require some travel, not expected to exceed 30%.
