Are you ready to Lead, Inspire, and Shape the future of Professional Liability Underwriting?

At Swiss Re, we don't just manage risk — we reimagine it. We're looking for a dynamic, driven, and technically sharp underwriting leader to take the helm of our FLOW Small Lawyers Professional Liability (LPL) Team. If you're passionate about building high-performing teams, driving profitable growth, and making a real impact in a fast-paced environment, this could be the role you've been waiting for.

About the Role

As Team Leader for Small Lawyers Professional Liability, you'll be at the center of a high-volume, high-impact portfolio — leading a talented team of underwriters focused on small law firm business. You'll drive underwriting excellence, champion operational efficiency, and cultivate a culture where people thrive and portfolios perform. This is more than a leadership role — it's an opportunity to shape strategy, strengthen key relationships, and leave a lasting mark on one of Swiss Re's most dynamic segments.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across the team.
  • Lead meaningful performance conversations — conducting regular reviews, development discussions, and succession planning activities.
  • Support onboarding and training efforts to set new team members up for success from day one.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where every team member feels empowered to make sound, confident underwriting decisions.

Underwriting & Portfolio Management

  • Drive profitable growth and portfolio performance across the Small Lawyers segment with discipline and strategic focus.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions align with Swiss Re's guidelines, risk appetite, and profitability objectives.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including growth, retention, rate adequacy, new business production, loss ratio, and expense management.
  • Review and approve underwriting decisions within delegated authority levels, maintaining rigorous standards.
  • Identify emerging trends, loss drivers, and portfolio opportunities — implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Support pricing discipline and risk selection strategies to protect and grow the portfolio.

Broker & Customer Engagement

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and key distribution partners.
  • Support business development initiatives and enhance Swiss Re's visibility in the market.
  • Collaborate with brokers to uncover growth opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive efficient workflows and consistent underwriting practices across the team.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Claims, Actuarial, and Products to continuously improve processes and customer experience.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and reporting tools to sharpen decision-making and team performance.

Strategic Contribution

  • Provide market intelligence and competitive insights to senior leadership to inform strategy.
  • Participate in product enhancements, underwriting guideline updates, and high-impact strategic projects.
  • Help shape the future growth and profitability of the Lawyers Professional Liability portfolio at Swiss Re.
