Risk Engineer

Imagine stepping into a role where your engineering expertise doesn't just solve problems — it protects businesses, shapes strategies, and drives meaningful change across an entire region. At Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, we're looking for a talented, curious, and motivated Risk Engineer – Casualty to join our Latin American team in São Paulo, Brazil. If you're an engineering professional ready to take your career to the next level — working at the crossroads of technical risk assessment, client consulting, and cutting-edge data-driven insights — this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. Come help us build a safer, more resilient Latin America.

About the Role

As a Risk Engineer specialising in Casualty for Latin America, you will be a key contributor to our risk assessment and consulting capabilities in the region. Working closely with underwriters and clients, you'll deliver meaningful risk insights, conduct on-site assessments, and develop practical risk reduction strategies across Public & Products Liability and Construction Liability. This is a role where your engineering knowledge meets real-world impact — and where your work directly influences how our clients manage and mitigate risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform risk management consultations, including on-site assessments and desk reviews, with a focus on risk identification and the development of actionable risk reduction strategies
  • Produce accurate, high-quality consulting reports and external publications for clients, as well as educational materials and technical background documentation
  • Support underwriting teams at client meetings by demonstrating Swiss Re's dedicated risk consultancy and engineering approach, reinforcing our value proposition
  • Maintain and expand technical and professional expertise to deliver current, innovative, and customer-focused risk engineering services
  • Monitor risk trends and industry threats, identifying emerging risks specific to the Casualty space in Latin America
  • Enhance the service proposition and risk insights within an increasingly data- and technology-driven environment
  • Contribute to project-oriented work to develop and update risk assessment methodologies, checklists, and tools
  • Build and nurture collaborative, client-centric relationships, actively facilitating knowledge exchange among peers locally and across global regions
  • Handle client requests with a consistently high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction

About the Team

You'll be joining Risk Engineering Services (RES) — a dynamic and integral function within Underwriting at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. We are a globally connected team of industry specialists, located across the world, united by a shared commitment to delivering profound risk expertise and insights along the entire insurance value chain. Our work enables thorough risk assessment and empowers our clients and internal business functions with knowledge that truly matters.

To strengthen our growing capabilities across the Latin America region, we are expanding our Casualty team in São Paulo, Brazil. You'll be part of a multicultural, collaborative environment where expertise is celebrated, innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will have a tangible impact on how we serve our clients across the region.

About You

You are an engineering professional with a genuine interest in risk, safety, and client service. You bring an analytical mindset and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and confidently to diverse audiences. You enjoy working in a multicultural, fast-paced environment and are energised by the opportunity to collaborate across borders, industries, and disciplines. You are curious, adaptable, and eager to grow your expertise in a global organisation.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Engineering degree in mechanical engineering, process/general engineering, civil engineering, or a related field — Bachelor's degree (BSc) as a minimum, Master's degree (MSc) preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in industry, ideally within an engineering company or in a dedicated industrial/commercial environment
  • Applied experience in OH&S / EHS in industrial or high-traffic commercial settings, with a sound understanding of premises safety controls, operational risk mitigation, contractor/sub-contractor management, and quality control procedures
  • Fluency in Portuguese, Spanish, and English — all three languages are essential for this role given the regional scope

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Registered safety officer and/or equivalent recognised certification in the OH&S area
  • Experience working in an international business environment with a strong focus on internal and external client engagement
  • Prior experience in the field of risk engineering, ideally within an insurance or reinsurance context
  • Strong problem-solving and process management skills developed through hands-on project work
  • Knowledge of or keen interest in ISO standards, HACCP, licensing frameworks, and other industry accreditations
  • Familiarity with digital workplace tools, including AI tools, and a basic interest in data processing and analytics
  • A high level of interest in or proven knowledge of current technological and economic developments, including AI trends, interconnectivity, and digital transformation

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
