Senior Property and Casualty Facultative Underwriter

The Senior Property and Casualty Facultative Underwriter plays a key role in driving Swiss Re’s Facultative P&C strategy across Latin America, with a focus on Brazil and the Southern Cone (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay). The position is responsible for originating, underwriting and managing complex facultative risks, fostering profitable portfolio growth, strengthening client relationships and contributing to portfolio steering and underwriting excellence.

 

 

 

About the Role:

 

  • Originate, analyze, price and underwrite Property & Casualty facultative risks, promoting sustainable and profitable portfolio growth across Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay;
  • Independently assess exposures, contract structures, limits, retentions and pricing in line with Swiss Re’s global underwriting guidelines and risk appetite;
  • Perform in-depth analysis of risk exposures, natural catastrophe risks and accumulations;
  • Lead the underwriting of complex and large risks, applying sound technical judgment and market insight;
  • Structure proportional and non-proportional reinsurance solutions tailored to clients’ needs;
  • Actively develop and maintain strategic relationships with cedents and brokers, acting as a trusted underwriting partner;
  • Lead and actively contribute to renewals, new business initiatives and capacity deployment decisions;
  • Proactively manage the assigned portfolio to achieve sustainable profitability and targeted risk profiles;
  • Monitor portfolio metrics, leverage pricing and modeling tools, and continuously enhance data quality, transparency and underwriting accuracy;
  • Stay abreast of developments and trends in the regional and global Property & Casualty reinsurance markets;
  • Ensure consistent application of underwriting best practices, governance standards and risk controls;
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Claims, Actuarial, Risk Engineering and Legal, and actively contribute to cross-functional improvement initiatives;
  • Represent Swiss Re in client meetings, broker discussions and relevant market events;
  • Support knowledge sharing and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters when required;

 

 

 

 

About the Team:

 

The Property Fac team is responsible for the handling (top and bottom line) of the Property Facultative book of business originating from brokers and insurance companies, based in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

 

 

 

 

About You:

 

Technical Expertise:

 

  • 8–12+ years of experience in Property & Casualty underwriting, preferably within the reinsurance industry;
  • Strong technical knowledge of Property underwriting and solid understanding of Casualty fundamentals;
  • Proven ability to assess, structure and underwrite complex risks using strong analytical skills and sound technical judgment;
  • Solid expertise in natural catastrophe risk assessment and accumulation management;
  • Proficiency in portfolio management, pricing tools and underwriting models;
  • University degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics or related fields;
  • Strong understanding of local and global insurance and reinsurance markets;
