About the Role

 

As our Graduate and future underwriting professional, you will work right in the heart of our business, interacting daily with diverse teams across the company that assist in the underwriting value chain. We strongly believe in learning by doing and therefore you will spend most of your time in the business working with amazing and experienced colleagues. You will have a mentor at your side helping you to navigate through professional situations and exciting challenges. 

 

You’ll play a key role in evaluating insurance applications, assessing risks, and helping drive our company’s profitability.

 

Your daily activities include:  

  • Review reinsurance submissions, including exposure data, to determine eligibility and assess risk factors 

  • Work in close collaboration with senior underwriters and actuaries to analyze underwriting data, including complex and comprehensive quantitative submissions, to prepare and propose informed decisions on treaty acceptance and price

  • Collaborate with brokers, clients, and other internal stakeholders to gather additional information and clarify submission and coverage details 

  • Support senior underwriters in complex underwriting tasks including treaty structuring and pricing, along with ensuring adherence to Swiss Re guidelines

  • Active involvement in a cross functional project to gain an end-end understanding of the underwriting value chain incl. portfolio steering 

 

By working directly in the business, you will broaden and deepen your skills and expertise in at least following areas: Property Treaty Underwriting​, Claims handling​, Client management, Portfolio steering​ and Data analytics​. 

 

About the Team

 

P&C Reinsurance is the largest Business Unit within Swiss Re and split in 3 lines of business: Property, Casualty (incl. Facultative) and Specialty. During the Graduate Programme you will be part of the US Market Unit Property Chief Underwriting Office team that focuses on property treaty reinsurance underwriting, pricing, catastrophe modeling and portfolio strategy and steering. You will join a global and diverse team of 136 colleagues based in locations around the globe where 'team spirit' is not just a tagline, but every day's practice.  

 

About You

 

This role is designed for early-career professionals with a maximum of three years of prior relevant full-time work experience. We are looking for people who want to make a difference!

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • Successfully completed university degree (Bachelor, Master, or PhD degree) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 

  • Strong interest in/motivation to work in Property Reinsurance 
  • Enthusiasm to learn a broad range of skills relevant to property reinsurance underwriting 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and high attention to detail 

  • Strong in communication and high confidence to work with clients, brokers, and senior colleagues 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a positive and collaborative attitude 

  • Innovative, showing a high degree of own initiative, takes accountability and is a fast learner

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel 

 

The base salary for this role is $70,000. Candidates with advanced degrees may be eligible for a higher base compensation. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only, and does not include short-and long-term incentives or other benefits offered.
