Senior Property Facultative Underwriter

About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious Senior Property Underwriter who has the skills, drive and commitment to develop his/her career in Swiss Re as one of the world's global reinsurance leaders.

You will be part of our Asia Facultative Team to steer and grow a profitable Property facultative book in Korea. You will be executing our Swiss Re Fac's Go-To-Market strategies and promoting our presence and propositions to brokers and clients.

You will be originating, analyzing, pricing and underwriting Property risks and portfolios, as well as deploying capacity appropriately according to risk and portfolio quality and Group guidelines within the framework of underwriting authority. Your core territorial remit will be Korea, but you are expected to work closely with other regional markets and support their underwriting and business origination. You will also get exposure beyond your core market through supporting peak renewals and 4-eye consultation of other markets within Asia. Swiss Re is a bottom-line driven company and your performance will be measured based on bottom line growth.

The role reports into the Head Property Facultative Korea.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Underwriting and Business focus:

  • Grow and steer a profitable and balanced Property Facultative book in the territories assigned.
  • Be the first port of call for the markets assigned, and provide high quality, timely and appropriate service to clients and brokers whilst complying with underwriting authority and guidelines.
  • Support the Head of Property Facultative, Korea, to develop and implement the Property Go-To Market strategy to deliver planned property portfolio targets, sharpen and articulate our risk appetites to our clients and brokers, within stated underwriting guidelines and other governance rules.
  • Proactively manage portfolio for sustainable profitable growth and monitor portfolio metrics. Observe external risk landscape and trends. Help steer portfolio to reach profitability targets and the Target Liability Profile.
  • Drive business origination and enhance relationship building with clients and brokers. Ensure robust new business pipelines and improve renewal retention to maximise Swiss Re Facultative's commercial position.
  • Grow facility business, monitor and take necessary actions to ensure actual performance is better than expected.
  • Mitigate volatility, manage line size and explore alternative approaches which allow us to write business profitably and meet client needs.
  • Ensure diligent use of pricing/modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality. Proactively improve data transparency and accuracy.
  • Help train and retain underwriting talent.
  • Support underwriting peer reviews & audits. Implement audit recommendations.
  • Provide underwriting support to other Swiss Re offices and handle ad hoc tasks as required.
  • Proactively manage operational risks to ensure Operational Risk Management (ORM) compliance. Contribute to the ORM process and internal risk reviews.

 

General

  • Contribute to the Swiss Re's market presence and client franchise of being a reinsurance subject matter expert and go-to market through working closely with cross-functional teams including Client Underwriters, Solutions and Treaty Underwriters.
  • Actively seek and procure opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement.
  • Provide technical advice and conduct trainings to Swiss Re clients and internal functions.
  • Proactively liaises with the Claims Team to stay abreast of claims trends and issues of market / client companies and their profitability.
  • Proactively streamline underwriting processes and workflows in collaboration with Business Services and Business Management.
  • Accountable to timely premium collection from clients and brokers with the operational support from Technical Accounting and their delegated responsibility.
  • Lead / participate in projects as required.

About You

  • Strong command of English and Korean Language.
  • 10 years or more of relevant facultative underwriting experience and skills with profound knowledge in risk assessment of various industrial risk exposures.
  • Deep understanding of the Korea (re)insurance market and products.
  • Market network and relationships with key Korean clients and broker.
  • Expertise in hi-tech and other heavy Property occupancies with capability of risk assessment and Natural Catastrophe underwriting required.
  • Expertise in facilities and automated solutions are added advantage.
  • Innovative and comfortable with data analytics and leveraging technologies.
  • Comfortable and efficient working in a highly collaborative, matrix and multi-cultural environment.
  • Take ownership, accountability, and go the extra mile to get things done, both internally and externally.
  • Provide superior service to our clients / brokers.
  • Ability to learn and deliver under pressure and at ease with going outside of comfort zone.
  • Proven track record as a successful salesperson and deal maker.
  • Strong teammate and effective communicator, both written and verbal.
