Associate Actuary

About the Role

Excellent opportunity for a junior to start his/her career and gain a global perspective in a multinational company. This position is embedded in the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Group Risk Management team reporting to China Chief Actuary. 

The main focus of the role will be on reserving and financial reporting. The role supports monthly and quarterly review of P&C loss reserves for SRCS China Operations. The role also supports the Chief actuary and the reserving actuary in preparation of recommendations to appropriate reserve committees and legal entity management.

The main responsibilities are:

•    Assist in quarterly estimation of P&C insurance portfolio reserves (local statutory, US GAAP) including close cooperation with major internal stakeholders (Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, Finance/Accounting)

•    Assist in estimation of payment patterns serving as one of the input parameters for IFRS 17, EVM and solvency calculations 

•    Assist in finance monthly close process including UPR calculation and IBNR roll-forward process

•    Provide support in preparation of internal and external statutory/financial reporting and presentations 

•    Develop and maintain relationships with local actuarial and industry associations

•    Provide support in other actuarial matters as necessary

About the Team

The incumbent will be part of the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions global actuarial team based in Shanghai. The team is responsible for determining the technical reserves at adequate levels meeting all local statutory and US GAAP (IFRS 17) requirements. The actuarial team encourages development of talents, including developing technical skills, nurturing actuarial sense and encouraging pursing actuarial qualification. The successful candidate will be able to learn from qualified and experienced actuaries. In addition, the team is supporting Swiss Re Group in all actuarial risk management aspects with respect to Swiss Re Corporate Solutions.

About You

The most relevant criteria for this position are the following:  

•    Quantitative background with 1-5 years of experience in P&C (re-)insurance industry

•    A university degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, actuarial science or related field 

•    Skilled in R and Python, VBA and SQL is a plus

•    Experienced in using MS Office, in particular Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. 

•    Basic knowledge and understanding in P&C actuarial principles

•    Motivation to pursue actuarial qualification (e.g. FIA, FCAS, FIAA etc.)

•    Good written and verbal communication skills in Chinese. Fluency in English is a plus

•    The successful candidate should be a quick learner, and paying attention to details

•    Proactive attitude
