About the Role

 

This position will lead the strategic and tactical development and performance of the Greater China Casualty and Fin Pro Portfolio, in line with agreed overall China strategy and performance targets.  You will spend the majority of your time leading the business development, working with primary customers,intermediaries and carriers, contributing to marketing and providing technical knowledge and expertise.. You will deal with customers and third parties on a one to one basis, although you will also work with other colleagues as part of the Greater China business and the Casualty APAC team.  You will use your strong strategic thinking, planning and portfolio management skills to execute.

 

The Head Casualty and Fin Pro Greater China will report to the CEO of Corporate Solutions Greater China and with dotted line report to Head Casualty & Fin Pro APAC and China GM, ensuring full alignment with Regional and Global Products Heads. He/she assumes team management responsibility over Casualty & FinPro underwriting team.

 

About the Team

 

  • Is responsible for setting the strategic direction, financial business plan targets and the execution of profitable Casualty & Fin Pro business in Greater China.
  • Takes full management accountability of all aspects of the portfolio and client relationships (including brokers), in close cooperation with all customer facing teams.
  • Responsible for building a strong talent base, actively managing out-performance and under-performance, and succession planning for the team.
  • Carries out effective oversight and control of local underwriting risks in line with agreed policy and risk appetite. Makes sure all controls are in place, effective and constantly updated. Ensures a high degree of costing adequacy, underwriting quality and outperformance
  • In coordination with all global and regional heads, evaluate the quality of the underwriting capabilities and the allocation of underwriting resources on a regular basis and implement actions to close identified skill gaps and to maintain or improve the portfolio quality;
  • Guide the local Risk Engineering team on a dotted line reporting line and granting full alignment with business strategy and needs.
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to the local business leaders, Committees and Board of Directors on all underwriting matters to enable informed decision-making.
  • Sets up efficient and effective procedures to run Casualty & FinPro Greater China, Fulfil operational and regulatory responsibilities, act according to the company's Code of Conduct. Live the Swiss Re values and Corporate Solutions Key Behaviors

 

About You

 

  • University degree or above
  • Proven leadership skills, experience to lead and engage performing teams in local environment in China as well as in a global context
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • 15 plus years practical insurance and/or reinsurance industry experience with min. 10 years plus focus on underwriting and portfolio management of casualty or Fin Pro or both.
  • Strong knowledge of the Greater China insurance market.
  • Strong problem solving capabilities and project management skills
  • Familiarity and compliance with industry’s rules and regulations
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Experience in operating in a global company environment.
  • Fluent oral and written English and Mandarin
