Casualty Facultative Underwriter

We are looking for an ambitious Casualty Underwriter who has the skills, drive and commitment to develop his/her career in Swiss Re Reinsurance Division as one of the world's global reinsurance leaders.

Exciting opportunity to expand your expertise across major casualty and financial lines—including motor and group personal accident—while gaining regional exposure through peak renewals and cross-market collaboration across Asia.

 

About the Role

You will be part of our Singapore Facultative Team to grow a profitable Casualty facultative book primarily in South East Asia region, through executing our Swiss Re Fac's go-to market strategies and promoting our presence and propositions to brokers and clients.

You will also get exposure beyond the South-East Asia market through supporting peak renewals and 4-eye consultation of other markets within Asia.

Swiss Re is a bottom-line driven company and your performance will be measured based on bottom line growth.

The role reports into the Head Casualty Facultative Greater China and Southeast Asia.

 

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting and Business focus:

  • Be the first port of call for Fac business, and provide high quality, timely and appropriate service to clients and brokers whilst complying with underwriting authority and guidelines
  • Drive business origination and enhance relationship building with clients and brokers. Ensure robust new business pipelines and improve renewal retention to maximise Swiss Re Fac's commercial position.
  • Drive facility growth and unlock opportunities in small to mid-sized industrial and commercial segments.
  • Grow a profitable and balanced Casualty Facultative book in accordance with the planned portfolio targets and Go-To Market strategy, within stated underwriting guidelines and other governance rules.
  • Mitigates volatility, manages line size and explores alternative approaches that allows us to write business profitably and meet client needs.
  • Provides high quality and timely underwriting service to brokers and clients.
  • Actively seeks and procures opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement.
  • Ensures diligent use of pricing / modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality, proactively improves data transparency and accuracy.
  • Work closely with Senior underwriters in the region to enhance UW technical skill.
  • Monitor budgets & business plans, observe external risk landscape & trends and ensure timely reporting. 
  • Cross sells Property and other lines of business where possible.
  • Supports underwriting peer reviews & audits and implements audit recommendations.
  • Provides underwriting support to other Swiss Re offices and handles ad hoc tasks as needed.

About You

  • Technical university degree, law preferred; or vast experience in (re-)insurance business.
  • 8 years or more of relevant underwriting experience and up-to-date insurance and reinsurance product and market know-how or in a corresponding reinsurance/broker area, preferably in Southeast Asia markets but experience in other emerging markets will be considered.
  • Experience in markets APAC added advantage.
  • Experienced in underwriting Casualty and Financial Lines, with added value in Motor and Personal Accident products.  
  • Expertise in underwriting facultative facilities.
  • Market network and relationships.
  • Open to travel based upon business needs.

  • Ability to learn and deliver under pressure and at ease with going outside of comfort zone
