About the Role
This is a leadership role managing a team of actuaries, responsible for delivering all actuarial valuation, reporting and analysis activities for Swiss Re's L&H Reinsurance business in South East Asia.
The role will also assume regulatory responsibilities as Appointed Actuary of Swiss Re Asia's Family Retakaful branch (SRR).
Primary responsibilities:
- Overall ownership of South East Asia’s L&H actuarial valuation and reporting deliveries to internal stakeholders across Asia and Group
- Discharge all regulatory responsibilities as AA of SRR branch
- To advise SRR’s CEO and Branch Committee on reserving matters for family business
- Manage external stakeholders including auditors and regulators
- Lead South East Asia and Bangalore actuarial reporting teams to provide high quality production of Group IFRS 17 and Statutory (Local and Group) actuarial valuation
- Review experience and propose reserving assumptions each quarter
- Clear communication of quarterly analysis results, tailored to target audience
- Work closely with Finance to explain and deliver statutory filings
- Be a trusted advisor to the business through insightful analysis, proactive understanding of market developments, and engagement with other L&H functions to provide advice on new business activities and enable effective management of the L&H in-force portfolios
- Be a role model to guide and develop team and junior talents, by setting the right culture and best practice.
- Provide support into capital management, ALM, risk management and regulatory engagement activities
- Represent Asia in regional and global projects as appropriate
About the Team
The L&H Valuation & Analysis team for Swiss Re Asia is responsible for delivering timely actuarial valuation, reporting and analysis activities for all L&H reinsurance business written in Asia. The team is part of the Global L&H Valuation & Analysis team, and eventually comes under the wider remit of L&H Risk Management.
About You
- You will apply your strong technical knowledge, business experience and leadership qualities to be an effective regional leader. You will ideally have the following attributes:
- Around 10 years of L&H (re)insurance experience in either valuation or pricing functions, with at least 5 years post qualification experience
- FIA, FIAA, FFA, FSA or another internationally recognized actuarial qualification
- Deep knowledge of insurance accounting, reserving and solvency regimes in markets this role is responsible for
- Candidates with direct experience in South East Asia, Retakaful, US GAAP, IFRS or economic reporting are preferred
- Effective working experience with senior management of varied backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and people management skills; Ability and courage to constructively challenge strategic business propositions, but also have business mind-set to be solutions oriented
- Fluent spoken and written English.
