Purpose

Our dedicated Public Sector Solutions (PSS) team specialises in serving Public Sector clients and brokers, addressing the unique challenges of this client segment with ​trusted risk insights, data analytics, and risk transfer solutions. ​By connecting public sector brokers and clients to the full capabilities of the Swiss Re Group, we turn their needs into outcomes. Together, we navigate an increasingly complex world, building resilience for governments and beyond. ​

 

Our PSS team is focused on, for Swiss Re Group, public sector institutions with non-standard buying behaviour, influences and/or needs driven by unique political or budgetary considerations, motivations, gestation periods and/or procurement processes impacting decision-making, solution design and/or execution. This includes:

  1. Governments at central, state, and municipal levels
  2. State-backed risk pools, captives and international sovereign risk pools
  3. Publicly owned Export Credit Agencies
  4. World Bank, UN Agencies and IMF, and other Supranational & Development Finance Institutions; and
  5. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

 

About the Role

You will be responsible for enabling business origination by utilizing deep technical subject matter expertise of designing insurance solutions to actively promote and eventually execute effective risk transfer strategies. The role has a specific focus to promote and facilitate new sales opportunities by offering innovative insurance solutions in line with Swiss Re risk appetite and underwriting standards for Natural Catastrophe (Nat Cat) and climate risks. The end goal is to deliver opportunities for Swiss Re Group including, but not limited to Reinsurance, Corporate Solutions, Alternative Capital Partners, and Risk Data Solutions (the tool and consulting arm of Swiss Re Group) aligned with their growth priorities and target liability portfolios. You will work in close coordination with the Business Units (BUs) where the underwriting and P&L authority sits, to deliver business success in a collaborative ecosystem. There is also close collaboration with other Group Functions such as Regulatory Affairs, Risk Management, and Swiss Re Institute.

 

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Enable business origination by providing subject matter expertise to develop and provide technical solutions and eliminating technical hurdles often experienced by public sector clients, primarily in property and Nat Cat areas.
  • As a member of a team with local presence but global reach, you ensure flexible and effective product- and know-how transfer and deploy your expertise in a manner that maximizes cost-benefit for local origination efforts while at the same time building a consistent common global knowledge base.
  • Transform data driven risk "challenges" into applicable, sellable risk transfer solutions for external stakeholders (clients, brokers, risk and finance managers, etc).
  • Make product demonstrations and accelerate the sales process by presenting potentially complex products in an easy-to-understand but data-backed way.
  • Strong collaboration with relevant 3rd party vendors such as but not limited to ICEYE, REASK, Floodbase, Planet, JBA, RMS, Verisk, etc.
  • Develop, maintain and utilize technical networks internally and externally to stay abreast of market developments, competitor activities and technical best practices, with a particular focus on supporting Swiss Re BUs.
  • Contribute technical and public entity thought leadership at high profile industry events, through media outreach and at speaking engagements.
  • Establish yourself as part of BU property network, including but not limited to Alternative Capital Partners (ACP), Parametric Centre of Excellence (CoE), Alternative Risk Transfer (ART), etc. – notably scientific, engineering, and structured insurance solution experts across the company.
  • Guide placement of bespoke solutions jointly with structuring, underwriting, and client management in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as in accordance with internal risk management and performance guidelines.
  • Work closely with PSS CM team to ensure maximum sales effectiveness, while providing regular updates and helping manage deal flow.
  • For your supported transactions maintain oversight of production numbers against defined plan figures.

 

About You

  • Master's degree preferred in natural science, computer, engineering, mathematics, finance or actuarial sciences.
  • 7+ years of experience working in property insurance market in underwriting, risk management or insurance/Insurtech sales/marketing complemented by practical experience in structuring and executing structured insurance solutions, ideally but not limited to parametric natural catastrophe products that yield strong economic profit for the company.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional and structured insurance products and markets.
  • Strong financial acumen with deep capital and financial management proficiency as well as analytical and modelling capabilities.
  • Good command of systems and tools (geospatial, computing - e.g., Excel, R, Python), risk analysis and willingness to learn proprietary Swiss Re tools.
  • High attention to details and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team to achieve financial targets.
  • Ability to triage effectively and to stop low return on investment propositions early and decisively.
  • Above average presentation skills and personal gravitas to interact with an external client base with ease and under pressure.
  • Effective communicator in English and flexibility to adapt to audience at different seniority levels.
  • Chinese (Mandarin) a strong asset.
  • Willingness to travel extensively in the APAC region.
