Engineering Underwriter (Corporate Solutions)

About the Role

 

We are seeking an individual to generate new business with brokers and corporate clients in Australia and New Zealand, driving the growth of our Engineering & Construction portfolio.

 

You will expand our footprint as a lead market in the engineering and construction sector and successfully originate a flow of new traditional and non-traditional business in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

 

Your main task will be the origination and underwriting of large construction projects, in particular, across the energy, mining and heavy civil engineering sectors and includes monitoring progress of accepted projects through application of appropriate risk management processes when in a lead position.

 

You will also form part of the global Engineering & Construction community and regularly interact with team members from across the regions.

 

You will support the growth of associated lines of business by actively cross selling the capabilities of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and contribute to the development of solutions that are tailored to our clients' needs.

 

About the Team

 

You will join a focused and committed Corporate Solutions Property & Speciality Underwriting team. The team are responsible for enabling and generating economic profitable growth for Corporate Solutions across Property, Engineering, Energy Onshore, Mining and Utilities in line with business strategy.

About You

 

  • Ideally an engineering degree (chartered engineer status) in civil, mechanical, chemical or process engineering;

  • Experience in engineering underwriting with a primary insurance or reinsurance company in the ANZ region;

  • Established network in the broker and insurance industry across Australia and New Zealand;

  • Strong team player, business acumen, entrepreneurial mindset;

  • Excellent negotiating and communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Strong analytical skills and high proficiency with common IT applications;

  • Ability to work under pressure and managing a high workload;

  • Available to travel; and
