Financial Accounting Associate

About the Role

As a member of the L&H Finance team you will be part of the team responsible for the accounting and reporting of Swiss Re L&H Australia and New Zealand. You will also have exposure to finance colleagues in other locations in what is a very global and diversified environment.

The position involves tasks and responsibilities directly related to the general ledger, reconciliations, intragroup retrocessions, regulatory returns and financial statements.

This role is suited to an accountant with previous experience in Life Insurance reporting and a good understanding of insurance accounting principles. The successful candidate will be proactive, have good communication skills and be able to adapt to a highly dynamic environment.

 

Your main responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

 

Financial Accounting and Reporting

· Preparation of quarterly & annual regulatory returns

· Preparation of local annual statutory financial statements in Australia & New Zealand

· Maintenance of the general ledger including consolidation

· Review of month-end trial balance & reconciliations

· Monitoring of intragroup retrocession arrangements

· Assistance with APRA business plan

· Assistance with external audit in coordinating and preparing audit information for interim and year-end audit

· Assisting with outsourcing controls to ensure compliance with CPS 230

· Ad hoc support to the L&H finance team

 

Process Improvement

· Evaluate, critique and improve existing financial processes and systems.

· Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

· Ensure adherence with robust internal controls and compliance with corporate policies.

 

Stakeholder Management

· Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and other departments.

· Communicate effectively with senior management and other key stakeholders.

About You

We are looking for candidates who possess:

· Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

· Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CA) preferred.

· Experience in Life Insurance Accounting

· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

· Proficiency in financial software and tools.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· High attention to detail and accuracy.

· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

· Proactive and self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset.

· Strong ethical standards and integrity.
